you are naturally not going to be in the same class as in that video are a? even from the 80's they have a weee bit more power then a 4bt has been known to make :)

I'm not a follower of "Mud-bogging" - so an explanation of how it works would be helpful - is it a time/distance sort of event - like a 1/8 mile drag race, but in the mud?

Any available videos of an event?

Gary, Gary, Gary - ye of little faith. Was what you said here really necessary? :)

Is this latest post your version of apologizing/backtracking for what you said?

Peter and his crew are top notch folks - so you'll be fighting a whole list of people when you make comments like that.

Peter and crew: Well done. I can't wait to see this thing fire off and then go down through the pit! Thank you for sharing the pictures and taking the time to do so.

Beers,

Matt

WELL, sorry to burst ANYONES bubble - but the "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" truism still applies! :-laf

Single purpose, specialized items, such as presented here in this thread will interest and impress many mud-bog followers, who quickly recognize the features that make this one a standout for it's intended function. But guys like ME, who are more into hot-rods and customs, well, we'll recognize the engineering and applied technology it contains, but pretty quickly drift back to what for us, has been the traditional street versions.

"Back-tracking"? Hardly - simply polishing up my earlier statement a bit, and seeking more info on a side street of automotive activity I'm not very familiar with - I'm no different than most here - and sure can always learn something new... ;):D

Since you're not familiar with this subject, that's all the more reason to write words of encouragement and congratulations - perhaps even ask a question or two... not call something "butt-ugly".

What a animal!!

Wow, nice job, it looks like a animal without the body, with the body it looks like an animal in its cage!!!

NICE JOB, TO PETER AND ALL OF YOUR HELPERS!!!

Oo. :D

And exactly WHY is it "more reasonable" or proper to offer empty and vacuous "congratulations" on something we may know little about - than to offer honest comments related to what you DO know something about? I can fully appreciate good engineering - and STILL not necessarily consider it "beautiful" in all it's individual elements and components!

It's obvious you - and probably others - are involved and enthused over this particular form of automotive activity, and base your observations accordingly. Perhaps you also feel this thread and comments should follow the "If you can't say something NICE, don't say anything at all... " concept?

But I have MANY TIMES posted my own various threads with pictures regarding my own truck, and features I've been involved in - and I gotta tell ya, ALL responding posters are NOT always nice, or complimentary! And that's OK too - as long as their comments and attitudes remain within the bounds of decency and board guidelines - for sure, *my* interests and opinions are NOT binding on all others on this board - and I always take a risk on stuff I post here that some will NOT share my own interest or viewpoint on what I present - and their opinions and observations are JUST as appropriate and proper as mine, even in disagreement or opposition!

That's just a reality of LIFE!

In my case, this time, I *do* recognize a well styled early ford body, either in street hotrod or custom form - and right or wrong, I use that recognition to judge spinoffs FROM those guidelines - including mud-boggers. And, after all, the emphasis of those vehicles is FAR more related to function than beauty - and any REAL or close resemblance to an early Ford is purely imaginary, if not downright accidental - FUNCTION trumps form - and in THIS case, it's the engineering and FUNCTIONALITY that is "beautiful" to see, not necessarily the sheetmetal or fiberglass tacked on over it! ;)

SO, yeah, to me, the engineering of what's been displayed here is neat and undoubtedly totally effective - but it's not my cup of tea, and I've seen what to *me*, were better and more attractive representations of "early Ford" design and adaptation - but obviously, that's just MY opinion!

Cheers...

I've learned that it's a whole lot easier to strike up a conversation with someone you don't know by starting with pleasantries and idle I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER chat rather than jumping in with something like this: "You know... I would have routed that brake line a little differently. "

That's when the person looks at you like: "WTF? Who do you think you are, bro?!"

Did you have much luck dating women, Gary? The cut to the chase method has worked on occasion for me, but only when there has been a lot of beer involved. :-laf

Since you're into amateur radio... Do you start the QSO with: "Wow... your audio sucks - what are you using... a Radio Shack condenser mic?"

No - you exchange pleasantries about signal/audio quality and if both parties seem interested in tweaking knobs and improving things - you walk each other through it.

All the more reason for you to not perpetuate this phenomenon, eh? :D

Sure, it is a fact of life that there are a lot of people out there that slam everything they see. Heck, I was pretty abrasive as a younger buck... but times change and it is WAY easier to live life by being a generally more friendly person than being a pain in the neck.

Setting all this to the side, I thought you might like to see it's first run. This is a mud bog not a mud drag so the pit is about 40" deep of mud. Most of the trucks go until they sink and can't move. The idea is to have enough power to stay on top of the mud and skim across. He takes off great but as you will see he got a little scared about half way through and let up for a second. This was his first attempt with this kind of power and said next time it will be balls to the wall LOL. Of the 4 trucks in the open class that made it across we got 3rd but did win a 5' trophy for best of show.

Well we just found out some good news. Just got off the phone with the man who built this beast "Piers him self" and after watching the videos he chuckled and said I guess we can open up the pump now and put some lazer cut delivery valves in her. I said "are you serious, there is more power to be had?" He laughed and said come on Peter I always leave room for more. Gotta love it!!!
