What are the added benefits of the updated radio software? Is it really worth the effort and hassle to do? Obviously a map update would be nice, but I am curious what improvements are noted with the new radio software? And then of course should I do it?

My experience with these updates on my other Chrysler vehicles (as I just got my '15 Ram), is the maps are not updated from the software, just "bug fixes" and enhancements. The beginning versions of the 8.4an were very buggy and each update provided a lot of improvements on these bugs, including fixes in the overall speed of the menus and various new soft buttons here and there. On my '15, the radio seems a lot more refined so the updates probably aren't as necessary. I can see improvements even over the one in my '14 Durango Citadel.

The routing available in smart phones is much easier to use anyway. :)

Absolutely agree. When RAM locked out changes to the NAV unless the truck was in park, they made it almost usless. I tried the voice recognition and it's no reliable enough. My navigator uses her cell phone with free Google maps and updates automatically with routing around construction etc. I use the truck's NAV for a moving map because it has a best guess on what the speed limit should be. At least it knows where I am. - John D

Navteq has the new maps available for anybody that is interested. Not on a disc anymore but on a memory card, they send you the USB adapter with the memory card now.

I'll never update again. The added info isn't worth the $$ charged. Doesn't everyone have a smart phone now? LOL

I wish I could have my phone navigation apps show on the screen. They show local traffic, accidents, trash on the road, even where the police are located. Everyone is trying to make a buck selling you their system. Wake up--let us use our phones and the systems that we want.
