I just went down to San Diego from Las Vegas and got 20 MPG! On the way back, I only got 19 but that's still better than 18. 1 avg. last time I did the same trip. My truck's got about 34,000 miles now so I guess maybe they don't break in by 10K?

42k for mine and I pull all the time. I can now regualy get 20-21 if I keep it under 70. Over 70 it drops to around 19-19. 5.

Your pencil needs sharpening or your calculator batteries need replacing!

;)... . or lucky you!

MPGs

I consistently get 19. 7 to 20. 3 (CALCULATED on an HP12C kept in the truck) up and down Ute Pass between Divide, Colo. and Colorado Springs. Sometimes that includes a GVW of 10,100 lbs. I NEVER look at the overhead readout because it consistently says 22. 8. Outrageous ... I beez a happy camper, mileage-wise.

He and I have pretty much mirror image vehicles with the exception of my shell. I am nowhere close to what he's getting. Maybe cuz I'm at 23k and he's at 34k? Doubt it!

FYI,my 2500 with 110 gallon auxilary fuel, shell and tools etc tips the scale at 8700 lbs and I always get 20 mpg or so at 78/79 on the interstate. It suffers 2 or 3 when I drive into a nasty headwind.

With the 99 or the 05 ?

The original poster has a 2004. 5. With the exception of RStamand who only has 25k on the clock (who I guess we can assume has a newer vehicle), everyone else has older vehicles that we know get better MPG's than the 2004. 5's.

I call BS to anyone getting better than 18 mpg's hwy with these trucks. I drive like a granny to try to get better mpg's and can't do better than 17 hwy.

Well this no BS! I've got 27K on my '05 and I just got 22. 2, hand calculated, on a trip from Carson City, NV to Las Vegas, NV. I got 20. 8 on the way up. I regularly get in the 20's on any trip I've taken. Oh, this is running empty right now since I'm looking a something to pull here in the future.

You can call BS all you want here is another hand calculated guy who gets over 20 on a occasion the key is if you keep it at 70 anything over and I drop into the 18. 5-19 range but I can do 18-19 all day long on any trip I have taken guess some of us are lucky and have good millage... . My uncles 03 SO gets regularly over 20 it is a 2wd which of course helps he has gotten as high as 22 on long trips now I say he is really lucky!

Ok someone else will call BS on me too, especially since people keep saying that the 2006 6-speeds are doing lousy for mileage.

I got 22. 6 MPG last weekend, and yes that's US gallons, hand calculated. Drove up to Dawson and back, 701. 3 miles and took 119. 34 litres (filled to top of the neck), which is 31. 0284 US gallons.

Last tank was 60% city driving and I got 19 MPG (US).

Of course our speed limits are lower up here, and I made a point of doing the speed limit all they up to Dawson, 56MPH. But it proves that it is possible to get good mileage with my 3500 if I slow down a bit. And since diesel is $. 20 a litre more expensive than Whitehorse I wanted to make sure that I got there and back on one tank of fuel.

Hey Paul! How many miles you got on the truck? Also, have you had the reflashes done to cure the long crank, etc? I've got an '06 6-speed as well, but can't get over the 18. 5 mpg mark driving as easy as possible. I've got 15,000 on the clock.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Eric,

8100 miles on the truck, built on December 22nd, no flashes. Bought the truck and went on a 3000 mile trip, then hooked up a 4000 pound trailer drove another 2100 miles, and then I was getting good mileage.

When driving 70MPH at the begining of the trip I was getting about 17 - 18. 5 MPG (US), with the trailer I was getting 14 to 18 depending on how fast I drove. After I disconnected the trailer I was getting 18+ combined city/highway.

My 04. 5 DRW 4X4 came up to 17 mpg at 30,000 and I was tinkled pink. This was 2 to 3 mpg better than it had been getting. If you get rid of the DRW and 4X4 I would believe a 3 to 5 mpg improvement. Oo.

My best ever was 17mpg, even with 265 tires and milking it on the hwy, 70 mph.

How do you know if you have a bad injector?

My 99 actually did a little better than 20 mpg but it now lives in Colorado. Most guys would question the accuracy of these results but they usually drive some other brand.

I have a 2005 and run AFE Stage II, Silverline Exhaust 4" turbo back , and Bully Dog CLarry Program and avg 23-25 mpg driving 65-75.
