Well folks, I've had my 2005 for a couple days now and must say I'm very impressed with the performance. The engine is flat out awesome! Great throttle response compared to my old 97 CTD. From what I've read it should just get better after break-in. My wife loves the way it handles, mentioned something about not having to wear a special sports bra now because the ride is so much better. High praise coming from her. We drove from our house at 4100 ft to the mountains which average 9000 or so elevation. The truck climbed effortlessly with plenty of power to pass slower vehicles. No noticeable loss of power at higher altitudes. Four wheel low and high engaged crisply without grinding. Braking was steady and precise, no fade. Overall this truck is much better than my 97. A lot could be do to age, but since I bought my first CTD used I can't say. Although I prefer the looks of the first generation trucks, the third gen has a tendency to grow on you. My decision to go ahead and buy the 2005 was determined in part by price, and the state of my old 97, but it was rereading the article in TDR #43 that truly convinced me it was time. I'm refering to the Technical Topics by Joe Donnelly. I have since given this article out to those poor misguided folks who thought they wanted a Powerstroke or Duramax. Some have listened and chosen well, and some stuck with what Dad and Granddad drove. All we can do is present the facts to them, like Mr. Donnelly did for us. Thanks to all the TDR writers for providing the best up to date info on CTDs!
