Where can you buy an engine?

***. should not be any problem since the block is the same. You just have to move all the moutings over to the new block. As far as the internals, I have no idea, was it a Dodge or Cummins dealer that you wen tto about the parts? I thought Deere was bad, sometimes we have to go to the online public look up to get numbers but they are out there, just depends on how hard the guy on th eother side of the counter is willing to work for you.

Troy

Yes he did take it to the local dodge dealer where it has sat for the last month. I went on cummins website and it doesn't look like you can get parts for the 6. 7 yet. I also couldn't find any 6. 7 engines for sale; maybe somebody on here knows where to look for engines.

Your best, but most expensive, bet would be coughin up for the new one off the line but if you decide to try rebuild it, the parts needed are available but probably going to be spendy and could take a little while to get.

Mike

A friend had a HPCR with an oil filter not properly tightened. Engine puked enough oil out to damage the bearings before the mechanic realized it. Good thing, it was a dealership mechanic who did it, bad thing was they rebuilt it in the truck and 8,000 miles later a valve or lifter let go, punched a hole in the piston and spit the debris out the turbo.

Total uptime in 4 months was about 10 days.

I can't imagine having to shell out $15,000 for the motor but after the experience my friend went through with her truck not even at her expense I would be inclined to go with the new motor off the line.

I thought the truck had an oil pressure switch that would keep the engine from running if there was no oil. I would ask this question of Dodge, because if the sensor is there and did not work, maybe you have a shaky leg to stand on.

i would see about selling it or parting it out and buying another one. truck can make you money sitting and depending on how much $$ per day he's losing by not having this truck that might be the best thing to do. is your buddies business insured for something like this?

He does have insurance but it doesn't cover this because it was the mechanics fault. :{

1/4 mile and that's it!

Back in the 80s, my Dad had a Nissan truck, 4 banger, not sure the size (I was pretty young).

Anyhow, he worked night shift, came home that morning and drained the oil of the truck and let it be while he went to bed. Usually he would leave the hood open, but for some reason he didn't.

My Mom didn't know anything about this, she fires up the truck and drove it to town. Of course it started making noise about 1/2 mile down the road and she shut it down... towed it back home.

My Dad had the truck for another 30 or 40,000 miles before he traded it in.

My buddy took the engine out at his shop and he just dropped it off at my place. I'll post some pics as soon as I can get my computer to download off my camera.

The parts that didn't sieze up still got 100K miles of wear or more. Dealership/MoCo has recorded/flagged this engine. Off the books repair (hopefully it works ok) might restore vehicle to serviceable condition for original owner but if sold without divulging issues next buyer will find out soon as a dealer plugs in for routine service.

I'm with TX Goosneck, how does something like this happen? Forgettin' to replace oil in a brand new GD truck? Sorry man, this thread wreaks of BS.....

Well I took the crank in to a local machine shop and they said it is cracked in four places. Called the cummins dealer and they are shipping me a new one straight from the factory for $1,100 and its gonna only take a day to get here. The main bearings are still in excellent shape but since the crank is cracked do you think it put to much pressure on the top end of the engine and damaged it?
