I compared the one on my 5. 9 to this one and I can't really tell a difference except the skinny end might be a little skinnier. This might be the same oil pan on the 3 gen 5. 9 and they're still calling it new and improved. Just my . 02 somebody correct me.

Wonder if the owner of the seized engine truck, if he needed it badly, had asked the dealer for the worth as a trade-in. Although having to bear unexpected expense, perhaps the outcome would be better than the doubtful, even though newly rebuilt engine, for future dependable service? Also depending on down time, if the offer of a new engine installed at $15,000 would be a wise choice. Hope everything turns out well for all concerned.

The 6. 7 block looks more beefy/rugged to my eyes than the 5. 9. Thanks for the photo work Joel. Only question, I though there was a "bed plate" or "mains girdle" supporting the bottom end besides the main bearing caps, but apparently not?

Vaughn you were correct about the mains girdle; I just didn't have it installed yet. Courierdog did you mean the exhaust brake? If so I have a pic on page 4 of this thread. Just so you guys know my dad is Joel and I am posting this for him. My name is Laverne. Oo. Your welcome for the pics.

Well all I can say now having owned mine for all of amost 3 months is it is time for a paradyme shift and change over to an engine tilt over front end for improved access to the engine. In the current configuration the fender walls are limiting the access to many components and making some jobs like changing out the fuel filter from a 15 minutes job to an hour, per the current shop rates. Similar the Oil filter could use better access as well if the whole front end tilted over similar to the larger trucks. Plus this would give Dodge a leg up on the competition for ease of maintenance.

Ya know, I have wondered why the HD pickups havent gone this route. I wish they would. I have many times contemplated making mine a tilt front.

Finally finished!

Man I am all smiles. :):):):)It's rewarding to overhaul my first cummins engine and 50 miles later it's still purring like a kitten. The check engine light came on for a while but it went off now. Boy this Aisin transmission sure beats my 48RE especially with tow haul and the exhaust brake. :):):):):D:D

Thanx Vaughn! Normally when you cycle the key to the run position, you can hear the electric fuel pump prime the system. For some reason I can't hear it and you have to crank it for a good 5-10 seconds before it starts. All the fuses are good and CEL is off. I don't have a scan tool for this new of a truck so would any of you techs out there have any suggestions? It runs awsome once it starts.

Update

You guys are probably getting tired of my updates but here's another one. My buddy just put his 6. 7 that I overhauled to a test and it passed with flying colors. He took a load of minibarns from Bakersfield to Sacramento which is about 300 miles one way. He said you wouldn't know the difference that it was ever overhauled. For those of you that live in So. Cal. his company name is Dry Creek Minibarns; you may have seen him advertised.

Update

I agree how is the rebuild doing today? Is it still on the road? Any issues or has everything been good since the rebuild and I assume oil changes which include a refill of fluid. Pun intended.

It is these type of difficulties that give us character and these experiences are valuable. Worrying is what shortens our lives. These things do happen in the real world of business.

It now has around 30K and is still working awsome. Awhile back it started losing power but the dealer said it just needed an update. It is at the dealer right now because the diff has been getting hot.
