Pintle or Ball??

4x4 or not

i just put a hx 40 on my truck and just pulled a good size load with it. my gcw was around 23k-24k. i don't think the lag is that bad while towing. the only time you notice the lag is while shifting and it's not bad at all. now while drag racing the lag is terrible.

the hx-40 really helped my egt's unloaded, i used to be able to hit over 1700 now i can't hit over 1400.

but while towing with my comp box in the ez setting i had about the same egt's as before. one of the passes i went over is a 6% grade for about 4 miles. i held 6th gear for about 2. 5 miles at 75mph. in 5th gear i was able to hold 65 at the crest of the hill. mileage was 11. 5mpg at 70mph with around 60 miles of unloaded driving. the second leg i went 79mph and i got 8. 3mpg. so as this test i don't think my hx-40 cools much better than my hx-35 did in just the ez setting. i was running 32 psi.

now on the way home a dooley duramax passed me pulling a 26-28' fithwheel camper. it was a single slide so i figure it weighed in at around 8k. now i had about twice the weight he did but he did very well with that trailer. i would just follow him and every time we hit a hill he would slow more than i would. so i would pass him on the hills and he would pass me on the flats. going up the 6% grade coming home i was going 60mph and he was going closer to 55mph.

here is a pic of my load it's a 30' gooseneck pulling a 14' enclosed trailer going to the derby. we took 3 cars and got 2nd,and 3rd:)

getting cooler air in

Jim,

Have you thought of getting cooler air into the HX40 & reducing EGT even more? I tried just the RE-0880 laying on the fender well & removed it because it was just too loud for me. I never cut the hole in the cowl. I'd sure like to find a way to get 4" from the mouth of the HX40 down behind the grill somehow. The Bullydog hood seems like the answer, but the $ isn't there right now.

Forrest... there is now a DamAir, made by the same guy... it is substantually cheaper. Forces air into your system.

Jim... man, I love that picture!

Where was that picture taken?

So you're telling me you took those nice rust free cars to the demo derby?

(I can't tell what they are but the doors on my '94 3500 have already been repaired!)
