Well, everyone, I started today down the path of no return...
I always hated the honeycomb-style stock grille, so I went with the Steel Horse billet grille because the local Pep Boys had it. It looks SO mch better than the stock grille, and it is MUCH more substantial. I think it will last really good.
The instructions that came with it were pathetic. They say 6 screws, when there's only five included, and YOU ONLY NEED 5! They tell you to drill through part A and into B, when you really need to drill through part B into part A. I was baffled when i first laid out the grille and tried to follow the directions. Once I junked the directions (and did it the way the wanted me to, but couldn't tell me to), the thing went together easily-- about an hour.
I would probably have been better off with the Stull grille. The SH grille has a slight bend (to acomodate the hood release) in the lowermost crossmember to get the rest of it straight. You can either mount the WHOLE insert a little crooked, or you can just have a slight bend towards the middle on the bottommost part. I chose the latter.
I also installed the ventshade 3-piece bugshield/hood protector. I went on in 3 minutes, and is sturdy. I never thought it would be sturdy since it's just 2-sided tape that holds it on. That tape is nuke-strength. You just have to wipe down the front end with alcohol to get it REAL clean so it will stick.
No pics, sorry. There are no doubt a million of these little things that others have done, so check theirs out.
Though I would share with you all my FIRST departure from stock. It's great.
BTW, i am back from Oman! Thank you so much for all your prayers. it's good to be home with the wife (yeah baby) and new truck.
