Moisture in Cab Clearence Lights

Not new to trucks. But, admittedly have A LOT of firsts going on here and coming from an '06 gasser XL reg cab superduty, I'm pretty damn excited about the list!

Over the last couple months of fighting with dealers over purchase price and trade in value (I'd call it negotiating, but that term doesn't cover it), researching, and looking at trucks I quickly came to realize that I was no longer buying a new truck, I was buying a small RIG. I guess when you start measuring your driveway to see if it's all going to fit (truck, trailer, other vehicles) that should tell you something. I was looking for a 6.7 crew cab dually with Aisin and 3.73. In the end, it was a toss up between a white Tradesman and a black Laramie from the same dealership. The Tradesman had everything I needed and way more than what I already had comfort-wise in the xl trimmed superduty. I was shopping FOR a Tradesman! Should have NEVER got into that Laramie...LOL

I'll get on the signature soon, but you already figured out what I ended up with. 2016 Laramie 6.7 CTD, Aisin, 3.73 4x4 Crew LB Dually - WOW stoked is an understatement Oo.

I'll be honest, the amount of electronics were a little bit to get used to in the first week but I managed :D I negotiated enough warrantee to feel like I'm covered for the next 7 years. My only real hiccup with the whole truck is "turbo lag." Not used to it. At all. And that brings me to (sorry guys, I know there's a ton of threads on this) dead pedal. I'm hoping you can tell me if what I'm experiencing is just normal turbo lag as opposed to what I've read about being dead pedal. I know a few guys with '15s have reported it, but not sure if anyone with 16's have. I have not experienced any total loss of power under any conditions. And I never really even questioned it the first week that I had the truck. I was getting used to the heft of the truck, babying it, paying atttention to gas mileage, etc. AND THEN they gave me a loaner 5.7 hemi in a 1500 while they did a spray in liner and mudflaps on the dually. THATS when I realized the hesitation in the cummins from a dead stop. But also made me think back to a comment I made to my wife while test-driving the Tradesman vs the Laramie. I specifically remember saying to her that the tradesman felt like it had more get up and go then the Laramie and then dismissed it thinking that was impossible due to the same configuration and it was just me. I don't need to burn the tires off at every start - or at any start for that matter. When flooring it from a dead stop, it just feels like lag. There's a slight pause, it accelerates slowly, but the power doesn't really come on immediately. But, after a second when it does come in fully, it pulls like a train. I understand the weight difference, increased tire to road surface area, torque mgt, etc. But guys tell me, normal turbo lag coupled with a heavy truck and I'm just a paranoid new diesel owner (yell at me to just go and enjoy my truck) orrrrr something I need to be concerned about?

Still in my glory over the truck - just want to make sure it's right. Lay it on me. Any thoughts/opinions are welcomed and much appreciated. You guys have a great forum here and hope I can make a contribution to it as I get to know the truck a bit more.

It's unfortunately just the way it is. I believe with the Aisin it's all the power management that only applies full power under the right conditions. Mine got a bit better once I hit around 10k miles, and it's better in tow/haul mode as it's not so eager to shift up. Still a slug stop light to stop light if that's what you're after. I'm used to it and know that it will accelerate just as "fast" loaded, as it does unloaded. Seems to accelerate "better" when I don't push the accelerator to the floor.

Where you will see the power is loaded. Truck holds and accelerates up hill amazing when loaded and generally feels most at home with weight on it. It's incredibly composed and feels like it's just doing what it does with little drama. It doesn't have the peak HP of the Ford, but the inline motor gives it a nice flat torque range, which gives the legendary Cummins power throughout the RPM range.

Nice looking truck. Can't help you on the turbo lag. I've got a 2015 SRW and have never experienced it. I do a lot of towing and it has never stumbled or lagged in over 17,000 miles. It will break the tires loose if I hammer it too hard. I have the 68RFE so maybe that's the difference.

My '05, 09, and '12 had a slight delay when giving go pedal from a quick take off. Some call it torque management.

Dead pedal when someone is lifting off the go pedal and then back on it again. There is a second or so delay when it will take off.

Congrats on the truck.

Yeah, as others have said, not turbo lag, but torque management. It helps the drivetrain survive the potential loads that can be applied to it.

I'd almost be surprised if my Aisin equipped truck would break the tires loose on ice. :-laf

Wondering if switching the traction mode off would help?

I've heard some people say they think it did....I can't help but think it is wishful thinking on their part. Just an assumption.

I'm am certainly not the expert on this, but logic tells me if indeed they use torque management to help the drivetrain (particularly, the trans) survive, that traction control is not relevant.

It doesn't.....

Congrats on your purchase, nice looking truck. Haven't experienced any hesitation on my 2015 3500 SRW, over 11,000 miles on it so far. Tows the 5TH wheel with ease. Getting an extended warranty with all the electronics in these things I feel is good insurance. Enjoy.

I'd say 'yes', it's normal. My '15 w/ Aisin has the little lag from stop lights, etc. My '12 w/ 68rfe did not, so I attribute it to the torque management function. Just takes a little different driving style. To me, it's not annoying or any kind of a hazard.

Appreciate ALL the replies, guys.

I agree with a lot of what you've mentioned and this may simply be a case of me reading too far into it and being paranoid about the new purchase. Based on what others have posted about really severe "dead pedal" in some other threads and some of the PM's I've received - this isn't it. Like many of you mentioned I think it probably is just "torque management" directly associated with the Aisin transmission. I had an understanding of this with the Aisin before I bought the truck. But, after reading about a few bad horror stories...thinking that maybe I've been spending too much time on the forums :D I understand why engineers would not want to allow 900ft/lbs put to a steep (relatively) rear axle any time the driver wanted to "jump on it" from a dead stop. Personally, I probably couldn't afford it...LOL I'm more than 100% satisfied with the power of the truck and how it accelerates. My race truck days are over and I truly chose this truck and configuration for the pulling capabilities - of which I have no doubt it's going to be a beast. If I have to give up a little bit of off the line super-acceleration for the benefits of the Aisin... I can live with that.

Ming, I agree with you completely - it accelerates smoothly and without any hesitation every time I DON'T try to put the pedal through the floor...LOL I walked away from Ford because I just felt more confident in the dependability of the I-6. Mechanically, this truck will remain stock for at least the next 7 years. Ford's scorpion may prove to be an awesome engine (sorry for the blasphemy!). I just wasn't willing to gamble for the couple more ponies it offered. Torque and dependability are more important to me. Oh, and it will break loose on ice. It just has to move 5-6 ft at a slower speed before it does it...then look out!!! :-laf

Wyo, I don't think it's going to be a hazard in any way either and will probably match my driving style trying to keep an eye on MPG.

Now - onto hitch, aux tank, and tonneau! Thanks again to all that replied.

You just have to get used to the difference between these trucks and your previous gasser.
These trucks are a different breed altogether. Raw power. Once out of the hole, you feel it.

Within a short time, the memory of smokin the tires off the line will fade and the inevitable I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER eating ear to ear grin will remain as you enjoy your new truck.

My wife refers to my truck as my mistress.
I can't understand why? Although......I'm only 6 months in on my truck and I still walk up to it and say "OOOH BABY" LOL

"Cherry" keeps saying "Now Chris, if you do not slow down, you are going to get a speeding ticket. I suggest you use your cruise control!" Snoking
