RJOL said:On page 14 it gives the specs on the new clutch. It appears to be smaller in both outside and inside diameter, but usable thickness is over twice as much as the 4. 5 gen clutch, and its total area is bigger by 25. 8 sq inches. Someone who knows more about clutches will have to chime in, but it appears to be a bigger clutch in "total area (sq in).
RJOL said:Tomeygun: What is your impression about starting out in 2nd gear, and also the clutch pressure. On page 13 it suggest that the clutch pedal effort is lower. Also... What lubricant does the owners manual specify for this new transmission?...![]()

The NV5600 was shown as weighing 132 pounds more than the 48RE. The G56 now shows 25 pounds less than a 48RE-equipped truck, for a total weight savings of 157 pounds over the NV5600.DBond said:With that aluminum housing how much weight has taken off compared to the NV5600?
That should go right to increased payload right?
KCJackson said:And keep in mind that the 4. 10 axle is not offered with the Cummins/G56, but with 3. 73s, it has the same higher GCWR as a Cummins/NV5600/4. 10 driveline. So you save 150 pounds and get a more economical axle ratio to do the same job.

DBond said:I don't think it will give better fuel economy. The G56 has a lower OD than the NV5600, so the G56/3. 73 is about the same final drive ratio as a NV5600/4. 10. 2100 vs 2130 rpm at 65 mph.

Thanks for the info!
Any chance you put some more miles on it, and have any more comments?
LHolland said:Tommygun, Is the 11. 5" axle no longer available? For grins I went to the Dodge website and spec'd out a truck like mine. My sticker shows an 11. 5" rear axle with 3. 73's and ASD. When I spec'd an '05 it showed a 10. 5" axle. What's the word on that. Thanks
