No, enduro's have been around for a long time. Trials events are still around as well. Trials events your riding up and over obstacles and the object is to do so without touching a foot down - as far as I know there isn't a time component. Enduro's are a time & speed event. There is a course laid out and generally it's one long course - you don't ride the same terrain twice and you don't get a map or anything. You get a route sheet that gives you the times that you should be at certain distances. They will be based on a set mph average over the entire course - around here it's usually 24 mph but at the national it was 30 mph. There will be parts of the course that you can't maintain that speed and others that you can go far faster than that. The trick is that there are a bunch of checkpoints along the course and at each of those check points you should be arriving there at an exact time. For every minute your late you pick up a point. If your early you get 2 points for the first minute and 5 points for every additional minute (you don't want to be early into checks). If your more than 15 minutes early into a check or more than 60 minutes late into a check then your event is over at that point.

24 mph may sound slow (I thought so until I started trail riding) but let me tell you - it's smokin fast in the woods. The top guys can maintain that pace and have to think on all the checks. Us guys in the C class pretty much ride as fast as we can 99% of the time and then there's a couple checks that we need to pay attention to the clock. Enduro's are also a lot longer than a trials event. Of the 4 enduro's I took part in this year the shortest one was 64 miles long and the longest 104 miles - 4-6 hours hours of riding for me. Here's a good site that gives info on enduros - MidwestEnduros.com

I just have a Trailtech Endurance computer - it's a real basic one. I just set my clock so my start time matches the key time and manually change the mileage at resets. So basically I'm using a watch and odometer. Maybe I'll invest in something better down the road but for the level I'm at now it works fine.

glad to see diesel enthuse racing enduros. i just had a great experience racing one with Blare Pine and his son Cody. We just happen to race the jack hammer together and on the same minute. What made it so much fun. We know each other from diesel events but not as dirt bike freinds, by the end of the day we had new riding freinds and respect for each other. Blair is a A rider and his Cody is right there so getting to ride with them all day what a blast.

I agree Harvey I had a great time now heal up so we can do some more of it. Back to Stonyford the next 2 weekends and two more Enduro's.

Along with a roll chart that works well. I started out that way then started in with ICO products just like the truck mods :) and followed their different models up to the current CheckMate. After a couple years layoff and some dust I sold it. . now I wish I had it again. Now I want to get their CheckMate XL as I never had much need for the IR anyway.

The last enduro I ran it didn't matter cuz I was just behind all day :{

I know that feeling - that's the way my first one went. Late into every check and reset. Just kept riding as fast (slow :) ) as I could all day long. I do have a roll chart case as well just didn't think of adding that to the post. I've looked at the ICO products and it was hard to tell the difference between the Checkmate and Checkmate XL - is IR the only difference? I've also been looking at the Watchdog.

Yes, just the IR. It was cool flashing the race to others wanting an upload but it gets old after a while when you don't really have time.

Guys would pick out that red box and tie you up. If I find a used IR model I think I will paint it gray.

That sounds like a good opportunity to get an advantage ;) - put a bug in your program that you fix just before the start so that they all get bad data lol.
