Time for the first fuel filter change on my 09 4500. Got the updated filter and canister from Genos. The owners manual says I need to remove the left front wheel to access the filter. The filter looks easily accessible from the under the truck.

Anyone have advice on changing it? I really don't want to remove the front wheel if I don't have to.

Thanks

Gary

It's personal preference, and each tech has their own method they like best. Removing the inner fender liner makes things very easy to see and access through the wheel well. The wheel can stay on, but removing it makes it much more accessible.

I removed the inner fender for the first filter change, mainly because the thing was so tight I could not get a good position to pull on the wrench. When I finally got in there with a mirrir to see everything it turned out the plastic was broken on the bottom where the socket wrench fits in. I had to use a strap style oil filter wrench around the top to loosen it and it was crazy tight!! The second change I am sure will be easier and the inner fender will stay in, I didn't tighten it with an insane amount of torque like the factory!

Did one yesterday. Let it drain then I loosened it through the wheel well (didn't remove the wheel well). From the front under the truck I reached up over the front axle and took it off. Then snaked it in through the top to put it on. No fun.

The first one we did we removed the wheel well it was to munch labor for that job.

Have fun.
