Now that my gauges are in I am looking for some ideas on upgrading the air filter set-up as well as the exhaust. I would like to stay away from the oiled filter set-ups like AFE and the K&N and build my own. And I have a bad mouse problem in my shop and figure the cat will do more good in the corner of the shop instead of under my truck.

Why build a home made piece when companies like AFE have already done the research to find out what does work and what does not?

As for the oiled filters just buy an extra filter and keep it ready to go in the box, when you do change the filter you just pull off the dirty one and put on the clean one, then just clean the dirty and put it in the box and you are ready to go next itme.

There are to many problems that can crop up trying to design a home made unit and you bet that warranty will be a problem with some home made set up verse a nice clean set up from a company.

Ok, any one got any write ups on building a bhaf for the third gen's?

As for building my own set-up, I really can not see spending the coin they want for one of their set-ups when I can build my own set-up for a third of what they want. Sure I am cheap, but I ain't easy. :D

Besides, I enjoy building things like this. When I owned my old ford psd I built my own open air set-up. When I was doing it I got a lot of flack from the other ford owners who had bought the kit I copied my set-up from. I was told it would never work and would cost more than the Tymar set-up. Well, it did work, looked exactly like the tymar (well, it actually looked better) and cost a third less with slightly better parts. And this was not meant to ruffle any ones feathers, it's just my take on it.
