my 93 died going up slight grade in- 25 degree alaska weather. would like to get it running for trip to east coast. replaced separator filter, lift pump and crank sensor and bled air several times. still can't start. error code 55 shows when i turn ignition switch on, off, on, off, on, within 3 seconds. i'm getting frustrated with it. it's my first diesel. i would appreciate any suggestions to help me get going. CSTAN

look to see if there is any smoke out the tail pipe, gray or black. if no smoke look for fuel shut off solenoid movement when the key is turned on. If no smoke fuel is not being turned on, if some smoke could be an air issue, i am not familiar with the code but can look it up in a couple of days.

55 = end of codes... so that means no codes set. I second the fuel solenoid, check to make sure you have 12 volts & a tight clean connection where the terminal slips on to it.

When I froze my 95 up it bulged the fuel filter just enough to take in air and not want to start. Took me three days to find it, have you checked yours?

When you try to start it does it turn over faster than normal? When the solenoid craps out and no fuel is getting to the pump, the engine turns over faster and has a different sound. Pull the solenoid off, carefully because there is a spring and plunger that can take off if you are not careful, remove the spring and plunger and put the solenoid back on. Try starting it again and see what happens. If it starts, the solenoid is bad. If it still won't start, pull it back apart and reinstall the spring and plunger cause it isn't that!

Also make sure you are getting 12volts to the top of the solenoid.

Oh yea, is it still 25 below or have you got it in a shop? The fuel could have gelled and if not warmed up, it won't start. I don't know what the run up there for the summer but 25 below is getting down there. Just a thought!
