I'm sure this was covered else where, but I am literally on the phone trying to buy this truck.



What is involved making the first (low-hp) HPCR into a 600???



Flashing and injectors or is it much more involved??
 
You can do some searching on it if time permits you. It is my understanding that it is quite involved. I think some things about the 600 are actually lower than on a 555. Seems like rail pressure is one of those. From what I remember, they are very different. The 20HP and 45TQ numbers could easily be met on a 555 with just the addition of an edge EZ for $350. Much cheaper than trying to emulate the exact configuration of the 600.

I agree with AndyMan, there are many ways to increase power and torque, but emulating a 600 would require changing injectors, pistons, fuel pump, software, and probably more. In June Spike TV's Two Guys Garage did a Cummins tour that covered many of the 600 changes, these programs get rerun a lot, if you have a chance try to find it, it will give you a good idea of the changes right from the R & D man at Cummins.
 
I put a VA pressure box that made mine a 300/660. A mild box, easy install with great towing manners and its adjustable on the fly.
 
I will trade you I hate my 600. i am getting like 13-14 mpg and the egt's are running @ 900 cruising. i had a 555 and they ran about 700° at cruise and I got 17-19 mpg. I CANNOT STAND the turbo lag of the 600 Wish i could have an 04 again. mine got stollen and all that were left were the 04. 5's
 
What will it take to change to 3:73s? It has anti-spin already.



AND some sort of aux trans. Salesman can't tell anything about it!
 
Hey Stab, why not pass this one up and find the truck equiped the way that you want it. Your gona drive yourself into the poorhouse changing all this stuff.

That's probably what's going to happen, but it's got everything else I need (WANT)!

Plus, I can't afford a new one!
 
I wish I had bought the 305/555 2004 I test drove instead of the 325/600 I wound up with.



I also get 13-14 MPG or less and I have a Cat that really makes me mad.
 
its not the cat. I pulled mine and went with the banks exhaust. then the afe INtake.



Wow an unpresidented change. NONE! also I dont think it changed the lag at all either. anyone know what temps their 04. 5 run at at cruise??

600 or not, and what's different

I'm sure I'll leave something out here,. . but the 600 has liquid filled valves and seats, a larger intercooler, 3 injection event, cat system, special pistons for better cooling, electronic wastegate, a bigger turbo,. . and like I said I probably forgot something. Too much to try to upgrade a different model. Yes the mileage is poor compared to previous years, but I recently did a post on a recalibration for the 600 to reduce smoke on startup and to Increase Fuel Mileage. The recalibration is suppose to be available in October, per STAR in a TSB. You'll have to request it.
