My initial 2 tank fulls were 12-13, The last couple have been 17-18 combined hwy/city. I have the auto and have not towed anything with it yet. I have 4100 miles on it. Love it! By the way, that is the same milage my o1. 5 got with the 5spd.

Just got the thing last Sat (5/8/04)... '04. 5 2500 4X4 QC LWB Cummins 600 48RE w/3. 73's. Mileage is just under 1K (had the oil changed for first time yesterday). Dealer delivered the thing with a full tank... overhead said around 15MPG. Topped it off last Sun with 21. 26 or so gals with around 350mi. on the clock ($34 @ $1. 59/gal)... overhead said around 15. 8MPG. Filled up for the first time (ran down until the fuel light came on) this Fri... . 30gal ($48 @ $1. 59/gal)... overhead said 16. 4MPG. The overhead reads low: Doing the hand compute that's around 16. 7MPG. It's combo miles, unloaded, and the thing isn't broken in yet. I drive like a maniac (75-85MPH on the highway), and already this thing beats the hell out of my 2nd gen Ram 1500 QC SWB 4X4 auto w/360CI gas job (when the overhead said 17MPG, it meant 15MPG) despite the huge weight advantage.

I have a 04. 5 2500 CTD 600 48RE with 3. 73 rear and about 270 miles on it so far. I just filled it up for the first time and calculated 13. 3 MPG. This was a combination of city and highway driving unloaded. I expect the fuel consumption to improve as the truck breaks in.

17. 1 driving down to Lexington, VA and back 70-75 mpg most of the way..... I usually get around 15 mpg thrashing it around town.

MPG Towing car trailer

This past Saturday I drove out I-80 to pick up a car body.

Towed a flat-bed trailer and out empty and loaded with a 'cuda body on the way back.

530 mile round trip, yielded me 16. 1 MPG on the overhead, 15. 91 hand calculated. Drove 70 MPH on the way out, and 65-70 MPH back.

I gotta get in on this. I picked my truck up this last Sat. and filled up for the first time today. Drove it till the fuel light came on and topped her off again. I got 14. 2 on the overhead and doing it the old fashioned way got me 15. 47. Ain't complaining a bit, my old powerstroke only got 13. 5 on a good day. But then I ran the begezus out of the thing. :D

I have had a '97 with the auto transmission and an '02 with the 6 speed stick. I drive the same way in the same city and this '04 mileage sucks. Although I have been trying something different now. I have tried driving around the city and using the TOW/HAUL when under 45 MPG. It looks like the city driving has improved about 2 MPG in the TOW/HAUL mode. The transmission doesn't seem to slip as much as when the TOW/HAUL is not used. Anyone have any ideas about that?
