EB, would you mind checking the engine hours? I'd like to know how many hours you run between oil changes.

Thanks

Right now my truck has 101,902 miles on it and has run 2203 hours. That is an average of 46. 25 mph. I change the oil around every 10,000 miles so that would be an oil change every 216. 2 hours. 10,000 miles is approximately when I change it. Depending on how busy I am, it could be at 9500 or 10,500 miles. Sometimes I'll run 1000 miles in a few days and I never know where I'll be going tomorrow. We will probably be slow for the next month or so, it is every year. The oil companies are getting their drilling schedules and budgets set up for the next year and by the middle of Feb. we will be running hard again.

10-4, thanks. Being in the (kind'a) heavy excavation business for some time we stuck to the 250 hour drain on standard oil and 400 hour on C-5 synthetic. It sounds like you could go a little further between oil changes.

On my last truck I went much longer between changes using Amsoil synthetic. On this one I wrote the Amsoil tech people and was told they could not recommend extended oil drains because of "1, the new engine technology, 2, ultra low sulfur diesel fuel and 3, oil additive limitations". If it weren't for that, I would be using synthetic oil, (Amsoil) and going much longer between changes. I have the e-mail response directly from Amsoil. Until I can get more assurance on longer drain intervials, I will probably stay with the 10k drains. I believe the problem is with the Diesel Particulate Filter. If you go to long you could plug it up, that is my thoughts on it, no one else. If anyone else has different thoughts on it, let me know. I would much rather be running synthetic oil, but really can't justify the expense of a once a month change with synthetics.

fly ash... . additive package worn out... ... Sounds like heat and soot/acid is the killer. Does the Cummins have an EGR for gasses like the other (Ford, GM) Diesels?

I'm gonna check my hours. I know I have a lot more then that at 72K.

Just goes to show what all freeway driving can do for hours on the engine compared to city driving.

Most of my old truck(s) hours have been between 4500 and 6,000 hours in 100k. People seem to forget cruising jobsites and general use takes a huge toll on engines. I'm will to bet that "hours" will become part of the deal if you trade it in.

Congrats EB. I run the same setup out of houston and im up to 54,000 so far. They did replace my injection pump under warranty, but it has run good ever since. What kind of tires did you put on?? I have been shopping around and Michelin doesnt make a rib in 17" yet. Cant decide which tire to get as no-one makes a commercial tire in 17" that i can find.

I'm running Pirelli Scorpion STR in a 265/70/17. I have run them on my 03 and this truck. I usually get 70-80k out of them. They are basically the same size as the 235/80/17 tires that come on the truck. The revs per mile are 634. 0 on the stock tires and 638. 0 on the Pirelle tire. Speedo will read . 4 mph fast. 60 on the speedo is actually 59. 6. I've had good luck with them, I've had one go bad out of 6 sets of tires. I need to point out that I run Centramatic tire balancers which help but I am also heavy all the time.
