Well I received the results of my first oil analysis... ... wondering how they compare to the rest of guys. Or if you can offer any thoughts. All my readings were compared to the same type oil with an average of 5,787 miles.

Oil: Amsoil 15w40 HDD

Filter: Fleetgard LF3894

Mileage: 110,375

Mileage on sample: 7,225

1 Filter Change + 1qt makeup oil

Blackstone Lab Analysis:

Quote from Blackstone:

"No fuel, moisture or antifreeze found in oil. The oil could have stayed in longer. The TBN was 14. 5, normal for this type of oil. "

Well boys, what do you think? I think it looks pretty good. Everything seems to be lower than there average. My calcium and phosphorus were higher. My calcium was 4048, there average 2469. My phosphorus 1065, there average 1055. Is it ok that these two are higher? Should I go for 10,000 miles this time and pull a sample and see what it reads? Someone had stated something about Blackstones TBN readings not being correct. I know nothing about TBN. I am going to switch to Oil Analyzers next time for the fact they are cheaper. So will that create a problem trying to compare these readings with the ones from oil analyzers on my next change? Thanks for your comments.

Jason, that sample looks great!!! I would not worry about the calcium or phosphorus, Amsoil does things a bit different. Your readings on those 2 seem pretty average to me for the oil. I would definately run that oil a lot longer, even though the TBN reading they gave you is way too high, I think new oil starts at around 12. Looks good to me!

Numbers are great for wear metals. TBN is off for some reason. It is higher than when it is new I believe. The viscosity is the one you want too. My numbers looked the exact same at 8000 miles with this product. I tried to go 16K and that increased the wear metals too high for me. You might try 10K and see how it works out for you.

If you really start fueling the truck hard, you might drain faster.

Calcium and Phos are added to the oil. Phos is an anti wear additive and the Calcium helps disperse soot. Im glad to see the Calcium higher in the 15/40 oil now.

DEZLPWR, I am running a BHAF with the outerwears prefilter. I havent had it on very long though. Before that i was just running the stock air box and filter. I bought the truck with 87,000 miles on it in the first part of November last year. I just rolled over 114,000 miles yesterday. So 27,000 miles in 6 months. I have no idea what the maintenance history on the truck was before i bought it. But after I bought it i changed all the fluids.

I went from Delo 400 to Amsoil at 32K miles on the engine. Have been using Blackstone labs for about 6 years now on various diesel trucks. My first sample of the Amsoil to them (5K miles on the Amsoil) was also the first time they began offering a TBN report also. They said my TBN was 16. 0

I posted a question here, and a couple oil savy folks told me basically new oil is around 12. 0 TBN, and 16 was ludicrous. So, now that I see I am not the only one getting very odd numbers from Blackstone, I may change sampling labs in the future.

Just something to think about... .
