Anyone been to Dave Smith's Dealership

oil change - when?

OK - tried search, not computer litterate enough to figure it out.

Just turned 7K miles this morning. Manual says to change oil at 15K, wow that is high. I want to go ahead and do it now, but not actually do it myself. Very lazy. Anyway, what happens if I pull this thing into Valvoline Instant Oil change? Do I need to go back to dealer for the oil change?

Check the stuff that's in with your owner's manual and so forth. I believe you're supposed to have a certificate for one free oil change included with the truck. I can't remember I think mine specified gas engine on the coupon but my dealer did mine free with the coupon anyhow.

I got my oil done first at 3750 or so if I recall, about halfway to the first normal oil change (the one at 7500 miles). It's very difficult to qualify to "officially" get by with the 15000 mile interval.

I bought my truck from a small dealer so I went back to them for the 1st oil change and started making friends with their service guys and warranty department. I figure it's not much to drop a few dollars there in hopes they will take care of me when I have a problem.

I will change my oil every 5,000 miles. I don't like long intervals.

I agree with the 5000 mile interval, that is what my dealer recommended. 15000 is alot even if you were just driving highway. If you go to the quick lube just make sure they use an oil that meets the Cummins spec.

No disrespect, but I wouldn't let ANY quick lube touch my truck. If you do, take your own oil and filter, and watch the kids like a hawk.

I watched one pore SEVEN quarts of oil into an old 90 Honda Civic before the very dim light bulb went off and he realized his "team member" in the pit hadn't put the pan plug back. Once he knew what I knew, I made him start completely over.

I agree with 24v-dsl, no quick lube here. It is simple to do it yourself. One thing though with it being the first time, the oil filter will be tight. I think they have a gorilla putting them on at the factory.

Thanks for posting the question. I was thinking that 15,000 miles seemed a bit long, especially for non-synthetic oil and a new engine. I was thinking about waiting a bit more and putting in winter weight oil.

I don't want to change the subject but does anyone know who makes "Mopar premium diesel oil". This is what my dealer uses and it meets the specs but I couldn't see who manufactures it.
