Hi all. Just posting to introduce myself. I'm David Cornelius from Winston-Salem, NC. I've been a lurker for about two months, and finally joined up yesterday. My wife and I ordered a 2500 a couple weeks ago from Kernersville Chrysler Dodge here in NC. It's pretty well loaded and we can't wait to drive our first diesel.
We have a 2000 Durango 4x4 with the 5. 9 (the other one. ) We pull a 26' Springdale camper that weighs around 6,600 fully loaded for the beach. The D does a great job handling the load, but we're 600 lbs below our GCVWR so we really had to watch what we carried with us. Twenty-six feet may seem long for a Durango, but we have the incredible Hensley Arrow hitch to keep things in line, and a Jordan Ultima brake controller to slow things down. We've pulled our camper from the mountains to the beach. We've pulled up 8-9% grades (at 35-40 mph), and descended down (at the same speeds) and have had no problems.
We ordered the Ram so we can REALLY start towing. Seeing as how we will have almost twice the towing capacity, we will now have room to one day get a larger camper and carry more of the essentials with us (like water, firewood, etc. )
Everything I know about the Ram and the Cummins, I've learned on great boards like this one, DTR, DodgeTruck.org, and others. And, I've only learned about them in the past two or three months. Thanks for all the great information!
I'm also a member of the Durango Owners Club, so I'm well aware of how membership has its privleges. Thanks for reading and I look forward to getting to know some of you.
David
