Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) First post! Also please help regarding camshaft retainer

Hello! My first post, lurked for a little. I have a p0341 camshaft position hard code, my ecm checks good and the wiring so now I want to check out the thrust plate on the camshaft. I have the front cover off, is it possible to pull the retainer without pulling the valvetrain? I was thinking if I get it just a half inch it may squeeze out or it may not, just wondering if anybody done it before. Thank you!!

What year ?. I do not see where the sensor was replaced, has that happened ?.

I apologize I forgot to mention it's a 2001 and I tried replacing the sensor twice with new oem ones.

I have a solution:

I used cummins quikserve it seems like the original owner did an engine swap and never told the 2nd owner who just drove around with a check engine light all day haha I have a 98 block in a 01 truck hahaha
