Don't know if my signature is right- About a month ago I bought a 97 cc long box 5-speed 4x4 265's all stock. Then I found this site by accident and am now hooked.

I have been reading like crazy (time really flies by). Anyway I love this site and appreciate all the advice and info. The first thing I did was straight pipe the exhaust. Man did that sound good outside the truck, but inside there was a nasty reverbaration at just below and above 70mph or 2000-2100rpm. My muffler guy suggested a twister can(5" can about 2' long with auger flighting inside and about a staight through 1" piece of pipe in the center of the flighting). That can by itself cut the noise down to almost stock but there was still a slight reverb in the cab again. So the muffler guy put a used glass pack in front of the twister can and sound in the cab is back to stock levels and I still have almost a straight pipe flow. (All for a measly $95) Ok-then I went with everyones advice and installed a pyro (post turbo)and boost guage. (ISSPRO and pillar mount) Pyro temps are 500-600 at highway speeds, 600-700 pulling a loaded 4-place snowmobile trailer. Full boost is about 20-22. (Is this normal for stock?-diesel mechanic said 16 was tops for stock) I also installed stainless rocker panels. Looks great. Today I had my timing checked by the timing light method- 13. 3btdc. After about 3 hours of pulling the timing gear off and putting it on only to be at 17. 8 or 12. 5 and then 16. 7 and yadda yadda we finally got it on 15. 3 My milage pre timing change has been 16-17 empty at 70-75 mph. Loaded it has been 13-14 at the same speeds. I will be hoping for better milage but won't know for a week or so. Next I am thinking about a cam plate- leaning hard for the TST 280hp.
I really love this truck. I've never called a pick-up a truck before but this thing is definately a truck by my standards.
Oh another thing I started running Stanadyne fuel treatment also after reading some posts and listening to my diesel mechanic swear by it. After I added it to the tank it sounded quieter and smoother. Just started using it a couple days ago so I don't know if it improved the milage any. Ok this is getting too long. Thanks everybody.
