As little susp. travel in back as possible, use susp. stops of possible, and or clamp your springs. That is a lot of tire depending on the track, I would keep air pressure up in back and you can air down a little in front. Track bars of some sort would be nice if you have them or can get some. For your first hook, depending on your rear end gear, I may just go with 3rd low to be safe. Put the smoke pedal on the mat, and just ease the clutch out until you get it rolling, then get it all the way out asap. The turbo will have no problem spooling with the rpm on the governor. Just don't get out of the throttle even if it seems like you should, unless it starts to hop.

Craig, your being a post ho.

Kissfan, air down in the front, but if the track is real tight, don't air down too much. Make sure you get some traction bars or your going to have a hop-fest. Might want to switch to a slightly smaller tire, like a 33"or a 31" tall tire, and get that clutch out ASAP, or you'll be buying replacement parts for it.

Thanks guys, I am trying to be as competitive as possible, I am running a 3. 54 ratio. I am working on some traction bars made of 2 inch 1/2 inch wall DOM tubing with heim ends on both ends. I will look into suspension stops as well, All advice has been most helpful so far, but keep anything you got comin at me, I want to be as knowledgeable as possible before i hit the track

Forget 3rd Low that wont get you anywhere.

Since you have a 6 speed go with 4th Lo that is a good gear and 400hp will be enough to run it.

Bring the rpm's into the 3400 while the clutch pedal is depressed and and you are in gear and then start to release the clutch. Keep the rpm's up and feel the clutch start to grab then start to release more until you feel the tires start to bit and turn... once you get a full revolution let it out the rest of the way (without dropping rpms).

Make sure to tension up to the sled.

I was searching for some tips and found this thread.

How about with an auto transmission?? Low range, leave the transmission in drive?

I run 35" BFG M/Ts with 4. 10 gears and a Detroit locker in the back. No traction bars or anything. Engine is stock other than the Superchip programmer.

Any "secret" tips?? My buddy runs a D Max and I kinda need to back up all the crap I have been giving him about his truck... I'd have to eat my words if he out pulls me.

I could fab up some blocks to keep the back of the truck from squatting (if that is legal to do in the pulls??)

Make sure that you put some stiff knees, or whatever you can make, between the rear axle and the frame to keep it rigid back there. Without that, the sled will pull your hitch height down so low you won't pull as far. Good luck.
