First Service

I really hate to ask but being a new owner I have to ask and I did search everywhere and I know someone is going to think what a ..... boring topic...



I'm in for my first service which includes an oil change. I think the dealer was going to use regular oil before I reminded them that diesel engines are a bit different and they knew nothing about the post I saw here about fram oil filters.



So I'll change it again myself next week. What oil and filters are recommended? Does anyone know the proper dodge part numbers for the proper oil and filter so I can compare to my invoice?



Should I trust my five star dealer for engine maintenance or drive 70 miles to a truck stop?

Welcome Rich to the TDR.

As for oils a lot of guys use rottella T 15-40 and delo 400 15-40 is good. The filters are fleetguard #LF 3894, you can get them from Geno's are your local cummin's shop, I don't know the dodge filter part # but the use the fleetguard and put their name on them. I would just change the oil myself most on here do, its a pretty simple job.

Hi rcotely welcome to the board.



As far as oil, Shell Rotella T is a good diesel rated oil, but there are several others also. It's also easy to find. Oil and fuel filters I get from Geno's and change them myself.



Sorry don't have the Dodge part numbers.

Geno's Garage's phone # is 1 800 755-1715. Great people, give them a call and ask for a catalog. It will have all the filters and lots of other goodies for ya. In my opinion stay away from the dealers unless you can get a good recommendation from someone. Seems most are OK at fixing minor stuff but if they don't have a good diesel tech your screwed.
