New Virus out.

Hello all

Did my first solo flight today, this isnt related to Cummins much, but it was pretty cool. Just sharing my excitement!

I did lend tools out of the truck at the airport, so it sorta counts:)

Hey Man thats great. I fly myself.

Small 4 position and a larger 7 position that we time share with some others guys.

Its great to just be able to pick up and go whereever you want whenever you want.

No lost baggage, getting bumped, cancelled flights, etc.

Its great.

Keep on trucking and get your instrument rating.

Don~

Yes indeed Congratulations. Pretty pleasing as I remember.

My advice, fly lots, till it becomes second nature. I'm ashamed to admit owning an airplane and flying last less than 15 hours this year.

David

Congrats.

Advice (I know you didn't ask... ... ... . but)

1. Stay at it hard and as fast as you can until you get your private license. Get obsessed. For every young private pilot I know, there are ten students who are "almost" there (and never get their license).

2. Pursue the instrument rating. It's well-worth the sweat.

3. Fly. Stay current. There's nothing worse than a rusty pilot.

Cheers. Joe

Congrats.

If you haven't already, talk to ATC and don't be afraid of them. We're here to help you. If you ever get in trouble or need assistance in any way let ATC know. Enjoy flying.

Steve

Congrats;

Listen to Papa Joe; I quite after flying a number of years because I was not flying enough to stay sharp, and I am too absent minded---I kept forgeting minor details like changing tanks before the engine started cutting out. Man, you should have heard my wife yell everytime I did that!!!!

Don't listen to Steve! Those ATC guys are a bunch of smart a*****, why one of them was so unkind that after I made a particularly terrible bouncing landing, to say, "citabria ####, you were cleared to land, not do a touch and go!"(I was just coming in from a half hour of airobatics and hardly knew which way was up!! Another time when I ground looped a poor old 1947 international cadet tail dragger, one of them came on the air and said "---- would you do that again, Don missed it"

Really he is right they can be a lot of help, and it pays to ask for that help before you get in trouble.

Enjoy!

Vaughn

Congrats!

I know the feeling! I soloed on Sept 28

1985 in a 1969 Piper Cherokee 140B at

Johnston Co. airport in NC.

Now I am flying Boeing 757's and 767's

for Continental out of Houston TX.

Keep at it if you want to fly the big iron,

don't diddle-daddle, only fling a few hours

a month unless you don't plan on flying

for the Majors. If you do plan on flying

for a living, best thing to do is take out a

loan and go to an accredited flight school

like Embry Riddle and get it all done at

once.

Did your instructor take the "shirt off your

back"? What I mean is, take an old white

Tee shirt and a large black magic marker

and write down the specifics about your

solo so you can hang it on a wall? Mine

is getting kinda yellowed but still looks

good!

I havent been through class B airspace yet, that will be soon. Dont know if I can fly and talk on the radio at the same time:rolleyes: Class e is bad enough :) I need more hours yet before I can do more than one thing at once!

We went out and did spins a couple weeks ago, maybe a half dozen or so, got to induce and recover from a couple. I too had a time figuring which way was up. Landing that day certainly wasnt my best! Things werent really "relaxed" after. Didnt think I would be nervous at all when he started talking about how to recover from a spin, but when the carb heat went on and the throttle went down, well, "wow we're really gonna do a spin" But when I get to choose the lesson, it will be more spins:D

I didnt get a shirt, he gives you a certificate with a pic of a bird getting kicked out of the nest. Pretty accurate I thought. Do or die and whatnot:eek: It was in a 1964 Cessna 150. There will also be time in a PA-18/150 and a Warrior.

Dont know about flying for career, planning on joining CAPS for now. Father and little bro do search and rescue, and American search dogs, figure since I like to fly, might as well help out.

But who knows? If your gonna fly, use it! Make the work worth it.

ZEEEW,

Congratulations! Welcome to the club. You'll find being a pilot is membership in a great, though small club; and just like TDR, the vast majority of the members are great.

I still remember my solo. There aren't many things in life that give as much satisfaction and sense of acomplisment as that!!! Every rating is almost as good!!!

I started in a 65Horse T-Craft, no electrical, hand prop only!!!

I was a punk kid and thought I was a hot bush pilot!!!

After many years and thousands of bush hours I realize how little I knew!!! Still learning.

Best advice is don't EVER become fearless in an airplane!!!!!
