when i start in the morning,i can rev the engine in park. butwhen i back out of the driveway and go up the road i can hammer it and only get 1200 rpm for about 300 ft. then it will start climbing to 2100 rpms
happen to any one else, got any ideas??

bluewingron,
Not enough fuel or turbo isn't winding up quick enough. As in turbo lag.
Of course I could be way off.
But I don't think lag would last for 300 ft.
Also I think you need to let engine and rest of drive trane to get warmed up a little before you nail it.

Do you have manual or auto? If manual did you notice an slippage?

Bluewing-why are you trying to get boost and accelerate hard with a cold engine in the first place. Take it easy on it until the temp guage is at or above 140. I never apply full power until its at 180

Bluewingron, I had a similar problem, but it happened at part throttle when cold. I DID step on it hard once, to see what it would do. Could be the same problem as yours.
I still dont know for sure what fixed it, but I'll tell you what I did.

I adjusted the valves. It has 64K miles, and it was due anyway. It did NOT make the problem go away, but it ran smoother, and about 20 RPM faster @ idle.

I replaced the air filter. I used a factory filter because I'm told they stop smaller particles than the K&N's. No different.

I replaced the rubber fuel return line. On my truck this required changing the fuel filter. (I know the filter wasnt what did it, I did the filter about 2000 miles ago)
I think I still have a slight leak coming from the steel line just down from the overflow valve, but it runs 100% better. I also pulled the overflow valve spring, and brought it back to the . 500" spec.

Could be something like a TPS, or weak lift pump. I tried what I did because they were "cheap" fixes, and routine maint. that I skimped on. Not to mention, suggestions from this board.

I hope you get some ideas from this.
Eric

to john- not trying for boost just acceleration. i could outrun the truck on foot for 200ft. takes 3 mi to get to 140 deg.

to eric-did a valve adj. at 40 thou have 92 now. have k+n filter. TPS has been changed twice. last tps cured my eng. rpm from jumping up and back 500 rpm,on the highway at 60 to75 mph.

BWR, ever do the fuel return line? You have 92K miles right? If you never did it, I'm sure it's due.
The one time I stepped on it when it was running like this, it belched huge clouds of smoke, and missed like crazy. Kind of like what you'd expect from a gasser that the accelerator pump was messes up in.
My truck would rev in neutral, but with a slight miss(I try like hell not to rev a cold truck) to about 2000 rpm. I didnt rev any further. It only acted this way when cold.
Give it a try. Take you about an hour, and a buck for the part.
