mileage

Cobra,

I would think that you mileage will get better. Sounds like the engine may not be broken in just yet. I still have not pulled anything heavier than an empty 12ft tandem behind mine so really havent experienced first hand what these engines are capable of. However a neighbor of my Dad's hauled back my old Oliver (hence the alias name) last summer from Western Ks. with a 1993 3500 extended cab Ram with 12v Cummins and one of as some would say junk transmissions;) And this tractor is not a little one. Just one of the wheel weights on this tractor I estimate will go 500+ lbs or so. What the rest of the tractor weighs I dont know 5-6k just a guess.

mileage

I have 5000 miles now- 75% hiway, 25% city getting 21. 5-22. 5 mpg. Someone started a thread earlier about turbo boost/feathering the throttle, and how they think that pushing harder to accellerate to get a little turbo blast improves things. I have been piddling with this idea and I agree. One surprise is that I get better mileage with my own foot on the hiway than with cruise, which may be due to that phenomenon right there. I push harder at the bottom to get a kick up the hill, then back off, instead of waiting until the engine starts to drag and pushing gradually like cruise does.

Took my 6-spd for its tow last week. Got a 4500 pound horse trailer, hooked it up, drove west from DFW on I-20 to Abilene and back. Ranger hill is about the best challenge in this area. Started at the bottom at 75, reached the top at 75, throttle 3/4 open, the turbo wastegate blowing off boost like an F-16! Heated up quite nicely. Went back around and did it again 4 more times. Loped on back to Dallas. The sound that the engine makes when it is loaded is much more satisfying than unloaded. Sounds like a locomotive!

Sorry to ramble. Love the TDR.

Mine varies sooooo much. I'm over 12K now and changes are happening. Engine runs cooler and mileage getting better.

11 or 12 around town in stop and go. My damn lead foot. That's lousy.

But on the Interstate at 70/75 mph been getting around 16/18 mpg. Mileage goes way up if I slow down to under 60.

So if I were to slow down and drive like I had an egg under my accelerator foot, the #'s would be great!

Drivin' to Alaska in a couple weeks, I'll report back next fall! Yehaa! Where's my fishin' pole anyway?????

2001. 5 2500 swb 4x4 5-spd. totally stock at this point. 2600 miles on the beast. went to new hampshire this weekend- got 20. 48 on the way up (running empty) and 20. 04 thru the mountains on the way back. had to do a lot of throttle jockeying in the mountains following three mc's from bike week. :D

i'm a geek i keep records of everthing :D

Just thought I would add my two cents.

Overall ave 20. 3 MPG in 46 tanks.

As of my last fill up I had 61,982 miles on the truck.

I can tell you this is alot better the my 2500 gaser did.

Overall ave 15. 3 MPG in 231 tanks.

Lowest ave 12. 9 Highest 16. 8

It had 112,410 miles on it when I sold it.

average milage

The last I checked, my average for 37,500 miles was 18. 1. This past couple months has been better, but I haven't figured the average lately. About the only time I see over 20 is when my dad or office manager drive it. (And the office manager can get 20 hauling 3000 lbs. one way, and 1000 lbs. home!) I'm happy. Ray

Klinger,

Mine is getting about 20. 4 combined hwy/city driving. I live near DIA and go downtown and always get my fuel at flying j.
