Competition Dueling Dodges!

Well after a long day of "running behind" I finally got out to the strip. I was running late and the install of the COMP box and a few other "minor" things took me and John a bit longer then anticipated. Track opened at 6pm, we got there about 9pm :( They shut down at 10pm as well. So I only got one run in. They shut it down when I was next inline to run again. On the intial run I wanted to keep it simple, so I tried 2 wheel drive. Was planning on a 2nd run in 4 wheel drive, but didn't happen. This is on #2 dsl only.

R/T : . 711

60ft : 2. 881

E/t : 15. 9 :(

MPH : 93. 36

I actully think I let up at the end because I am unfamilar with this track and it was dark, I'll come back next Wed and try again. This was about 45 mins after installing the COMP box, I ran with it in Level 5 sublevel 5.

I just held the brake and built a "lil boost" (didn't watch) and left the line, the bystanders said I spun all the way through 2nd gear, and by the amount of "rubber" on my fenders I believe it. I didn't do a burnout before hand, was too nervous (first time ever running the strip). Didn't watch the boost nor the EGT gauge, hell I don't even remember the car I raced. I did beat him tho, that I remember. Bystanders said it was Honda Civic (2 door) so that had to be a funny site.

Although the time "sucked" I am extremely happy with the MPH, and now that I have a run under my belt... "raring" for more! :D

man my time was worse than that. with the setup i have now. i ran 18. 42@73mph. talk about sad and u see what i have on my truck. look like u did good to me. not to bad on the r/t.

Stand Proud Kat!

That's a good time for your first time out there. Man, I wish I had a 15. 9. The best I was able to do a few weekends ago was 16. 18@85. 55 mph. Some Tips I've been told: in 2WD, don't leave with much more than 4 psi of boost or you'll roast the tires off the line. My runs were with NO power braking, but I did do one later on in the night..... my buddy told me to put on a show:rolleyes: , so I did. First I did a burnout, then I left the line with 8psi, in 2WD, with MTs. I almost got into the wall twice:D . After getting off of it twice to save it, I still managed to put the hammer down and get 20. something@81mpg.

Hey Kat, howmuch does your truck weigh?

Good job man.

Josiah

After finally going to the strip after all my mods , the only thing I was worried about was the launch.

the Launch is the whole deal, with your mph should be able to dip into the 14's, no problem.

I went a 14. 1 at 97 mph.

This is want I did for the launch, I tried 3,4,5,6 lbs of boost at the launch, when i did the 14. 1 was 4 lbs of boost, at 5 and above I smoked the tires. look at the boost gauge for your launchs.

Hehehe, when I left at 6lbs I felt like a funny car smoking the tires till half track and still ran a 15. 4 I think.

You really need to heat the tire and determine at boost level to leave at.

I have a HX 40 so I think I need to build more boost for the leave, I think.

Did you only make one pass?

My 60 ft were 2. 20. :(

You did great and it only can get better. :D

For the Tulari deal in California I will have slicks and at least another 100 hp.

Again, still a great job and I am like you, I WANT TO DO IT AGAIN NOW. :)

I have no idea what my truck weighs. "Guessing" 6500 lbs or so?

Has nerf bars, 285/75/16's, spray in bedliner, 3 10" subs behind seat, thats all I can think of that adds weight, other then that shes stock reg cab 4x4.

Yes I only got one pass in before they shut down the track (noise curfew) and I was literally next in line to run when they said "no more".

It was a . 500 tree so based on what I been told my reaction time was good for the first time ever running, and my mph are good, just the E/T sucks (60ft time horrible).

Ya now that I had a night to sleep on it I think I left with too much boost, because I could feel the rearend moving around a bit, and heard the tires with helmet on and windows up.

The funnest part was was the Civic I beat (didn't sound stock accroding to Floor It) We had similar reaction time, similar 60ft time (he had 2. 717) but by the 1/8th mile I had him 10. 6 73mph to 10. 9 67mph, then at the 1000' mark I had 13. 549 to his 14. 133, so after examining my time slip I am very happy with MPH and the power my trucks makes. Gotta do some adjusting on the transmission now tho and change the fluid, I think I "broke her in good". Only thing that lingers in my mind is did i let up too soon??? And maybe lose some speed?

Kat,

I'd say you did pretty darn good for your first time. I had my first time in Sacramento at Mopar Day about a month ago. I was also so nervous, I was shaking a bit before, and for 10 minutes after I finished. I also only did one run.

Here's how I did, just so you see how much better you did :)

Reaction Time: 1. 328

60' time: 2. 901 (I think???)

E/T: 17. 591 @ 86. 87 MPH

You can see my BOMBs in my sig. I hope to do better my next attempt, I was so darn nervous, I basically wasn't paying attention at the starting line - obviously :D

Tom

The speed is great for your mods, impressive actually.

Too bad on the one pass, :(.

Definity tooooooooooo much boost.

We all we get faster and better. :D

Still a great job. #ad

Guess I should list the mods on the truck for the run.

DDIII's, PE COMP, Piers HX35 12cm² housing, K&N RE0880 + heat shield, Banks HighRam intake, ATS manifold, DTT 91% TC and VB (still on "Break in oil").

Thats all I can think of that on the truck "power wise". I didn't even look at the EGT gauge going down the strip... don't want to :D I do know going 75mph down the highway and flooring it puts it at about 1400° which ain't too bad. I am only getting about 30psi on the boost, I need to change the elbow or modify or adjust the wastegate, I want it to be set at 35psi, that should be perfect.

I didn't waste anytime after the run, Adam, Greg, and John came over to talk to me and I said brb goota go again :D I was going to try 4 wheel drive... . I think if I can get the 60ft time down to 2. 0 I should be low 14's. I need to weigh the truck, and see if I can squeeze a few more hp out of it without the aid of any drugs ;) I must say this is hard on the tires tho.

Thanks for the comments and such, at first I was disappoint with the E/T but after comparing MPH with other posts I am very happy, as long as it doesn't rain I plan to come back on Wed and make several passes. Can't wait for my AirBullDog Hood... maybe that will add some HP!

Another friday night!!!

Kat, went out again friday night, the runs were pretty much the same as last friday 15. 70' at 87-87 mph with 2. 20 60 ft time. all this is with stock trans and converter:eek: Have the same problem with traction, dropped the air pressure down to 30 psi in tires got a little more traction but still leave with about 4-5 pounds boost, but when it goes to the floor it goes up in smoke! :( if i walk of the line then hammer it seems to hook up better! hope to do the trans soon:D and then maybe 13. 90?:p o yea we are at 2500 ft up here. want to find a set of slicks for it keep it up practice makes perfect!! HAVE FUN and don't smoke something you dont want to!!

Well if the weather holds out I will be back at the track on Wed. I am praying it don't rain. I'll be there early enough to make several passes this time. Actually I might be coming down here damn near every Wed :D Floor It has ALL the tools we need, not to mention his "toys" 1 of them being a 68 Camaro that runs in the 9's I think he said???

I can't thank him enough for his hospitality and help this weekend.

So as long as it don't rain I will be back down here in Lawrence, KS (about a 2 ½ hour drive.

Gary do you know how much your truck weighs?

I am a 300lb boy for one, Stockland camper shell with rubber mat and carrying spare, I do not know. But been told near 6800-7000 lbs. maybe 3-4 gallons of fuel.

I will weight it on monday and then add to this post, cool?

I also let my truck idle in line, so the fuel charge was way cool this helped.

Can you turn up the boost a little more?

Gary,

I don't get a chance to get out to SIR on weekdays because I work at night, but a couple weeks ago a co-worker(also a PSD owner) that works a different shift says he was there on a wednesday night a few weeks earlier and couldn't believe a certain 2wd quad shortbed with a shell ran a 14. 12. It was funny that he couldn't shut up about being floord that a Cummins could run that fast. It took me a minute when he was telling me,then I remembered reading your post.

I let mine idle in line with the exhaust brake on to keep things warm. At the end of the track I'll also use the exhaust brake to slow me down. :D

Thanks for the reply, I wish it was a . 12 but it was a . 17, :).

Glad to help people understand those smokey loud truck can haul @$$. :D

GOD BLESS AMERICA

Thanks, I'll have to try and weigh mine too. I also idled in line as well. Ran down the track with just the "running" lights on, the people line didn't like my headlisght in their mirrors :D

Yes I am working on getting more boost as we speak, whether its modify the elbow some more or if its adjusting the wastegate. I'll be back at the strip this coming Wed as long as it don't rain.

At the same track I went a 14. 40 a 14. 60 and a 14. 79. I had a best 2. 09 60 foot time. Eric did really well for the first time out I was very happy for him I think he is hooked on it now. My best times are a 14. 19 best mph is 97. 70 best 60 foot is a 1. 96. this is all on stock turbo and injectors. I think Eric if you start comming down on Wed. night we could have some MAJOR FUN! it was cool seeing other Diesels racing. for the past few months 2 nights a week I sat and waited for some one to bring out a Diesel and race. But Friday was the first night and will not be the last. You need some stage 5 injectors and some LPG and we will try for 600HP on the dyno :D

Greg

The first time I ran, I figured since I was at a drag strip, I'd hook up from the get go, and bog like crazy,,,sooooooo I left @ 10#, and stood on it at the last yellow... much to my surprise, it smoked'em 1/3 of the way down the strip.

The next pass I came out @ 5#, and stood on it and dropped 1/2 a second off my time.

The third time I decided to launch in 4WD, @ 10#, shift to 2WD @30 MPH, the truck leaped out of the hole, I knocked another 1/2 second of my time :D

Then I had to go home

Next time, I'm launching in 4WD, full throttle @ 32 #, and leaving again on the last yellow... . I think that will be worth some more deduction in time..... These trucks make tremondos amounts of torque, and weigh quite a bit, so we need to get off the line ASAP.

BTW, on the scales @ the track, and my local DMV/Truck scales, my truck weighs 7440#, full tank and misc. tools, and my skinny butt.

I am wondering how you all been shifting the auto's. Do you let it shift its self or do you manually shift (while racing of course). I was playing at a stop light and tried a 4# boost start. when I let off the brake it burned rubber for about 3 seconds until it shifted into second gear (I had the selector in 'drive' position). Does it help to manualy shift??

Its always handy to know how to get a few more seconds off the 0-60 time... you never know when a powerjoke will pull up next to you at a light :D :D

Thanks in advance

I let it shift itself down the track, figured being first time I needed to keep it simple. NOW the fun begins. . hehe already trying to come up with ways to get just 1 more mph in there or shave off some time here.

Shift RPM

Tom C, what rpm does your transmission shift at when your floored? You may be better off shifting manually. Upon my request, Bill Kondolay assembled a manual only valve body for my DTT trans that is working nicely. I can shift at whatever rpm I need too for the fastest time. I'm searching for traction now but I'll have a time for you in a month or two:)
