Got 100,513k miles on my 04. 5, six-speed, 4x4 and my original pads, rotors etc still have lot's of meat left. Who else has had the same results? Before, I've always had to rebuild about 50/60k.

I replaced my front pads at 180K because I had a wheel bearing go out and I wasn't gonna leave the pads in there when I already had it all tore apart. Around 1/3 was left.

Rears last about 90K.

I've done my rears once, at about 70K

I've done my front 3 times, original rotors. I'm just hard on my brakes. :-laf

This spring slotted rotors and pads will be installed all around.

That's great news for me, I'm also easy on my brakes.

Questions? How thick are the stock pads when new, and how thin, when they should be replaced?

Also, does anyone know anything about a metal disc that is installed on the front wheel studs to help keep the brake dust off the wheels, are they worth having?

Thanks for any info;

Ray

IIRC I checked my new ones before I put them in. 12mm rings a bell. Replace them before they're metal on metal.

Side note: My brakes worked fine before I replaced the pads but I got a whole heckuva lot better braking with the new pads. They are DC pads so nothing fancy, but I think brake pads do "get old"... I've got a thread going on that around here somewhere.

Can't remember... are the stockers on a 2003 bonded or riveted? I rotated the tires last month at 188k or so and still have over 1/3 left on the originals. Not bad considering what I haul.

Fronts done at 108k

Rears to be done soon, 162k

Batteries original!

Driveline and injectors are a different story though

cattletrkr, you got 180K on pads, with the loads you pull? That is impressive, even if your miles are most highway. You must work that e-brake pretty heavily.

Good to know this all-important component seems to have been done right.
