I have no direct advice on pulling, but will tell you that you ARE going to break a shaft in your transmission with that setup. Ask me how I know

Good luck with your pull :)

I am betting he won't break a shaft. Just don't build insane boost levels at the line. I have seen many a truck run with stock shafts and be ok. The Low side of the trans does wonders. Now there is a chance he might break it though.

I like manual 2 most of the time, but since you have 4. 10's, I am guessing you will probably need 3rd gear. You could be alright though in second, depends on how heavy the sled is. For your first pull put it in manual second, build about 5 psi at the line and let off the brake and put it to the floor, if it starts bouncing get out of it(unless you want first place and don't mind braking stuff)

I guess you mean on this upcoming pull? if so, I agree. But it WILL happen in the future. You NEED to get some billet shafts in that thing. At the very least an input shaft. I recently broke my input, and tore up the converter, pump gears, pump housing, and have at the same time created a massive metal shaving mess throughout the whole transmission :(

Yea if your going to pull often , or bump up your power you better upgrade. Once a year at the local fair I am saying he will be alright. I would be more concerned about the Dana 70 he has if it is a 3/4 ton. I do know a guy running stock clutches and shafts in a puller for 3 years. He is putting down over 550HP. Some shafts seem to hold up better than others.

thanks for the replies,i dont plan on pulling often but since it is right here i am going to try it... if it breaks --it breaks... . i made the stock slushbox last to 120k with an ez on for 50k,there wasn`t anything wrong with it . . just slushy

Where are you pulling at up here in this neck of the woods? I didnt hear of any pulls in this area as of late.

Oh man I wannah go ... But if I dun break somethin' now at this stage of the game I dun goona get a whuppin' :-laf

It's close to Rutland VT . . It's thread is In the Northeast section of the TDR

i hear ya ... kids will have to be on bread and water if i break sumpin :-{}

nice truck by the way TMTT :--) reminds me that i need to clean my motor :-laf :-laf

Check out my pull with my sig components all stock internal trans will run until I blow it up. It will be expensive just buying a new one anyway its a core anyway when turning in the old one. Why spend money before you have to. whats a couple hundred extra if your stock one lasts another year or 2. I would suggest some ladder or traction bars at the least.

I am going to pull this Sunday for a try at a 3peat first place run in Mandan ND. I will post results. :)

I have 3. 54 ratio and run low range OD off in drive. It is in 3rd after about 20 feet and doesn't even think of down shifting. 2 pulls and smoke rolling off front tires in both pulls at end of track both times  .

I take it they don't believe in watering the track out there?? LOL. It is just too freaking competitive here in Indiana. A mild smaller tire and a dry track is very forgiving on parts. I never even hooked my dana 70. Heck I broke the spider gears on my dana 80 on the second pull.

Yeah we are in the midst of a bad drought. the track in the video was like concrete and no water truck due to being on fire call. My first pull the track was watered and worked well good traction until the end. Like the transmission I will run the 70 to its death then go to an 80. That is why I am running all terains for now, trying to prolong the enivetable.

Something to think about is put an 80 in before you break the 70, cause once you trash the 70(ring and pinion will go) you will have a few hundred for a ring and pinion, then a few hundred to set it up. So an axle that is worth 400 in good shape, you would have to spend 400 to get it worth 400. Find you an 80(600-1000) then use the 400 that you got for selling the 70 to offset the cost of the 80. Plus when you break the 70 you will be down, until you find an 80, start shopping now and you can be a little more choosy on the price and condition.
