I am a first time diesel owner. Just bought a 98. 5 2500 4x4 quad about 1 month ago. Found this web site in the first week and joined up on the spot. I have learned alot in the last month just reading in these posts, and from "Fritz's Dodge Ram Tech" http://dodgeram.org/ , both are GREAT sites. Also just got my first issue of TDR, all I can say is wow. A little more than a magazine. I've only thumbed through so far but I am very impressed.

Well now that I'm finished with all that, I was wondering if anyone knew what shop service manual I should get? Went to the local dealer and talked to a couple of idiots at the parts counter and they couldn't tell me if the 24 valve info would be in the '98 manual or not. They said I could get the '99 manual, and that would have it in there but the wire coding might be different. Can anyone tell me what the best way to go would be? Or if someone has a set of manuals for sale for that year, (all you "upgraders":) out there) I could buy it from you. Any help would be greatly appreciated

By the way, I did call the Chrysler publications order line and they didn't know either if it would be in the '98 manual.

98.5 Service Manual

I had a 98. 5 24 valve and I think that there was a supplement manual just for the engine. I believe when I ordered the shop manual there were 3 books in the set: one thick manual with powertrain/interior/electrical info, one manual covering the body and chassis, and one for the 24 valve engine. Hope this helps.
