Toward the end of a 1,400 mile trip, I was coasting down a hill at zero throttle. I then tromped on it to full throttle and got nothing. Absolutely nothing for about 2 seconds, then it snapped to life.

I have no guages, no bombs (aside from BHAF and exhaust).

50,000 miles on the truck. Any thoughts? Is my VP on its way out?

DD,

That's the typical symptom when your APPS (accelerator pedal positioni sensor) fails. I've replaced two this year.

Sometimes the APPS will work again temporarily if you exercise it a few times by pressing it to the floor then releasing.

My last one failed early one morning before daylight with snow and rain falling alternately, with a trailer in-tow, just north of Butte, MT. I nursed it on to a dealer in Helena by "exercising" the pedal a few times to get it working again temporarily. Fortunately that dealer had one in stock and I installed it at the curb and was on my way again.

I try to carrry a spare at all times.

I had frequent dead pedal with white smoke at start up. 216 code. It's all good now after an in tank lift pump, rebuilt VP44, and fuel system flush. I had thought it might be the APPS, but every time the engine kicked back in, the power was equivalent to the amount of depression on the pedal leading me to think the APPS just wasn't getting a signal. My problems started 20,000 mile ago with dead pedal during the last part of a 400 mile trip in 90 degree weather. It went from once in a while to every start up and every long downhill.

I was just getting ready to see if you checked the codes. You truck sounded just like mine when it started acting up. I've been living with it for the last 2K miles. . but it goes into the shop next week. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I am having the same type of dead pedal problems as you describe. Long downhill and then nothing until I shift down and then it picks right up and goes good. Where is the APPS located and how expensive is it.
