Hot-Shotting To-From California???

The "competition"..summary of changes to the Duramax for 2002

It was a good day. Went up north to pick up a 8000 lb boat. On the way home with the boat in tow I was very impressed with the power of my stock truck towing the boat. If it wasn't for the bouncing I'd not have known it was back there. Anyway, leaving town there is a steep hill about two miles long. About a dozen cars were lined up in the slow lane making there way up the hill. I passed them all and came to a lone (empty) new Ford Powerstroke. With only a quarter of the hill left and me about 20 yards behind him. I saw him look in his mirror and notice me coming, then a puff of black smoke as he got on it (he didn't want me loaded in front of him). He was in the right lane, I was in the passing lane. As I flew past him he kept looking down at his gauges as if to see what the hold up was. After I passed him he tried to keep up for about 10 miles but I guess decided he wasn't going to be able to pass on the narrow road so he disappeared behind me. It's nice to know I have that kind of power available when I need it (which I'm finding I need more and more). :D :D :D

Maybe I'll go out tomorrow and find a hill with a Duramax on it. :)

Right on

Gotta love the power of that "little Cummins". We've got 2 POSD's at work . One 97 one 99 and I'm not the least bit impressed with either:eek: . Doug

I had a Powerchoke try to out tow me on I 83 in MD. I was towing my trailer in sig below, and he was towing a Small tractor on a two axle flatbed. I slowed up to posted speed limit (65)on a curve, and he came flying out from behind me, I guess knowing his set up could handle curves better than mine passed me on the curve. If anyone knows I 83 in MD it has sharp curves. The only thing was after the curve was a steep and long hill. At the beginning of the hill I was looking at his tractor. At the top of the hill I could see glimses of him in the mirror. :D :D :D

An unloaded PSD gets outrun by a Cummins towing an 8K lb trailer... ... OK I was racing this funny looking Mustang yesterday... had some guys name on it which looked like Force. Boy I cut a great light in the BOMBED Cummins and just pulled away from him as he tried to gather his thoughts. Unbelievable power... CJ

To be fair

To be fair to the Powerstroke I have to at least say... ... I had a run at the hill and was doing about 70 mph when he noticed me coming. He was probably doing the speed limit (55 mph) when he "got on it". With my speed advantage he didn't have a chance. It still made me feel good to blow by him with that huge boat in tow. :D

Gotta Chime in here. I had my first "real" tow with the EZ and K&N this weekend. I was loaded to about 10k with the 5er and my buddy in his Flowerpoke was at about 8500 with a tow behind.

We were cruising along and got to this hill before Yuma (only 4% but still something) and decided to go for it. I pulled out beside him and proceeded to pass him. He was holding 55 and I came by in 5th at 66! The best part is when we filled up... me 10. 5mpg :D ... him 8mpg  . Can't wait for the DD2's

Sarcasm is funny sometimes. ? Both brands have all the power they need for the majority of people. When you start BOMBING your truck and begin to compare it to the "stock" masses, that factory fairness is all gone. I enjoy every day that I drive either of the trucks... . one day I hunt Cummins trucks and the next day I hunt the PSD's. It is really kind of funny. Towing the 5th wheel is a real hoot. The PSD will just flat haul that trailer with the propane on. It will pass other combos like they are parked. The looks on their faces whether it is a PSD or a Cummins is just hilarious. I'm going to let the Cummins tow it next weekend since the kids will only have to be in it for about 90 minutes. I havn't towed since the DD2's were installed... just the TTPM. I'm sure it will not let me down... it will likely do better than the 3K lb heavier PSD... CJ

Cobrajet,

I agree with you. I dont think you can go wrong with either engine. I chose the Cummins for its simplicity, and better low end. My father-in-law has a '99 Powerstroke, and it has more than enough power. When I read stories of a loaded brand a outrunning an empty brand b ,it enforces the fact that some people dont quite get it. Not everyone wants to race.

This truck was stock?

Hmmmm, you must have gotten the pick of the litter. I love my cummins but before the Banks kit, it seemed a little timid!

Yes, it's stock

From what I've read I may have got the pick of the litter. My stock truck (they don't make a EZ for 2002's yet) runs great and has a ton of power. The only thing I've noticed is my mileage seems to have got a bit worse. I'm getting around 15 mpg empty and while towing the other day got 12. 5 mpg (I was flying so that was to be expected). When it was new I was getting close to 18 mpg empty. I've anxious to try and EZ just to see what all the fuss it about but my truck has awesome power now.
