Well finally, after 5 months, I had the opportunity to tow with my rig on a 700 mi. round trip and compare it to my former V-10. Before the trip I had several people tell me that this truck wouldn't even know my trailer was back there. Like the V-10, it did know the trailer was back there; however, this truck didn't care. I couldn't believe the difference in the two trucks and how they handled the trailer. Granted, this one is a 6 sp and the other was an auto, but regardless of those differences, there is no comparison. On a hill I could not go over 35 mph before, I could do 55 no problem. The freeway was a breeze, just cruising along in 6th, able to do whatever speed necessary. At one point I had a guy pass me in a ferd aerostar and the first hill we came to I damn near had to push him up it.

And the mileage, only 14. 5 mpg :D on the way down. ONLY, c'mon, I couldn't believe it when I filled up. I couldn't get that empty with the other truck. The way back was only 11. 5 mpg, but that was against a headwind and part of it was climbing from sea level to over 6,000 feet, up and down, up and down.

All in all, in case you can't tell, I'm happier than a pig in ***** with the way this thing did. For anyone out there monitoring this forum, who is undecided as to whether or not to buy a diesel, trust me as someone who has made the switch over from a gasser, go for it, YOU WON'T REGRET IT. :D :D :D

Good news, glad your happy with it. There's no way I would go back to a gas rig myself after driving this truck, I love it. :)

I also came from the Dodge V-10. It had the auto & 4:10. The Cummins came from the 1st owner, who put on the 4" cat-back system & 300hp injectors. The Cummins out pulled the V-10. :D I was surprised. The torque is so deceptive when you're limited to less than 2500 rpm. :( I figure my towing mileage is about the same as the V-10 solo.

Since then another 1500 rpm & 500 ft-lbs have been added. It's not the same game anymore. :D When you pass the gassers on the hills, all you see in the rt mirror is

I used to live just south of you in Likely... .

Where did you purchase the 6 speed, and where did you go on this first pull?

Just currious what rear end ratio you have?

The 6 speed is great. I had a 5 speed for about 6 months and didn't like the wide gaps. Traded it in on the 6 speed and love it. I just turned over 10,000 miles and it's starting to run really well now. Bone stock.

NoCalH. O. PO, I totally argee with your statement as I also convert from a Dodge V-10 auto with 4. 10 gears. It towed great in the mid-west until my first vacation while towing my Jeep and trailer over the Rockies in NM. Shortly after that trip I sold V-10 and bought the Cummins and never looked back as now I can tow over the Rockies outside of Denver, CO and still exced the speed limit if I needed too (but I wouldn't).

First Pull

:D H. O. P. O. , I too moved up to my H/O Six speed, except I moved up from a 97 Cummins with an Auto trans and 3. 73 rear end. I also could not believe the difference on my first tow trip :--) I pulled hills in SO CAL that I used to have to stand on the pedal to pull at 35 in second, to cruiseing up at 65 in sixth!:D :D :D So am I pleased? In a big way. And just wait till you get a few more miles on her, she just gets stronger... ... ... Long live the KING!!!!!:-laf :-laf
