transmission upgrade question

I am looking for a way to lock up the torque converter on my transmission when pulling 7% grades on windy roads. Seems that the transmission likes to get warm in this situation. Every time I get up to speed and the transmission locksup, I have to slowdown for a sharp corner. Would a Commander or Pro-Loc Torque locker work ? I am not a transmission man

Thanks in Advance

Steve

I believe that you can get the commander with your stock set up however it's supposed to be a lot harder on the life of the stock parts. I would get a valve body and torque converter before you get the commander. IMO

I just had the ATS torque converter, high performance valve body and Trans Command module installed on my 04 1/2 3500. I also have the Banks kit installed. All I can say is it's worth the money. I paid about $3,000. 00 for the trans upgrade. I pulled a 12,000 pound boat with it last summer and I noticed the torque converter starting to puke in certain situations. (Heavy accelleration) It was also showing bad signs when I would just throttle the truck around with no load. I was able to get the torque converter to slip just by accellerating with no load if I had the banks Kit turned up past 4. The new set up is awesome. Can't wait to pull the boat the year.

Also, the Trans Command Module lets you set up the torque convereter to lock at specific RPM's. I have mine set at 800 RPM's. It is also setup to turn off the TOW mode on the transmission everytime you start the engine.

Ditto on what Duke said. And yes, the Commander will work with a stock transmission. But, seeing as you have an SO, you might get by with just a valve body upgrade and the Commander. I would give ATS a call, they are good people to deal with, and have always took the time to discuss my truck.
