A couple of observations I made during my first trip with gauges;

1. During full throttle, maximum boost never measured more than 17 psi. Is that normal for my truck? I would expect closer to 20.

2. I figured out that during pre-gauge trips, I was pushing the truck to 1250 deg EGT during hill climbs (I am measuring at the exhaust manifold). This trip, I was towing less than I normally do, and it would easily hit 1250 if I stayed in the throttle like I normally do. Should I be concerned about my past sins?

3. I learned that I haven't been letting the truck cool down long enough after driving on the freeway. It takes while to cool down to 350 - 300 deg.

For a stock truck, those numbers sound right on the money. The EGT's do seem a little high given that you have a 4" exhaust system. Try installing an after market high flow air filter (AFE, Scotty II or III, BHAF).

The boost could be a little low, the wastegate is generally set between 18 and 20psi.

How about Fuel Pressure? I did not see that you had one of those gauges listed. It is just as important as the EGT, if not more so.

As far as your past sins, there is nothing you can do about it, so don't fret about it. A stock truck is designed by DC to run and not have any problems, as long as you follow their operational guidelines - hence no gauges to monitor those things because you theoretically can't damage it.

I wouldn't worry to much about 1200 or even 1300 degrees. I know my truck has seen 1400 for pretty exteneded ammounts of time. 1500 and 1600 for shorter times, but still seen it. As long as you don't stay there to long, I wouldn't worry to much. A friend of mine runs his truck like mine or even harder. He pulled the head off, and everything looked great! It was amazing to see how much abuse these engines can take!

stownsend, I had guages installed a few weeks and I get up 22 boost, 1050 egt,10 fp, to the floor in 5th gear with 6,000 trailer.

stownsend, I would be thinking about a EZ or such---they include a boost fooler that helps you get closer to 30 p of boost (plus the extra HP pulling those hills). Cooled mine down pulling listed trailer. R, J. B. :)

Before I did anything, I would look for boost leaks or a wastegate malfunction. Your boost seems a little low, and your egts seem high. What engine do you have? Do you have any other mods done?

I actually do have a fuel pressure gauge. I didn't mention it because I've had it for quite a while. I watch it as closely as the others. The fuel pressure still seems pretty healthy.

I agree that I do need a good after market high air flow system. That's probably the next step. Then I was thinking I'd get either injectors or an Edge.
