Well, guys. Looking to replace my wrecked 2004 5.9L I seem to recall reading the 6.7s were de-tuned in CA when they first came out. Or maybe nationwide to get that 50 state smog engine certified?

Wondering what was the first year of best performing 6.7L I should look for. Using it for towing so need all the power I can get.

Any and all advice and experiences welcome.

6.7's were 50 state when released. They all ran 350hp until 2013. There were a couple of different torque ratings thou. Manuals had 610 lb/ft from 07.5-12. Auto's had 650 lb/ft from 07.5-11 and 800 lb/ft from 11.5-12.

2013+ is another change.

manual 350/660
68RFE 370/800
Aisin 385/850 (865 in '15 and 900 in '16)

If you want the best 6.7 it's the '13+ with the Aisin. The Aisin is a 3500 only transmission.

Boy Howdy...would I ever like an AISIN transmission. 2013+ rides are way outta my budget. My '04 was supposed to be my last truck when I retired then. Only thing we can count on for sure is Murphy's law. Got me good when that semi-tractor left turned in front me while i was doing 50mph.

So you'd say the 6.7's for all states ran 350HP up to 2013? The early years are virtually the same engine and tune as the 13's. Just trying to avoid making a bad year choice for a 6.7 Somehow i don't think they got as good mileage as my 5.9 HO did? (20mpg hwy...no load)

Thanks for the great specs AH64Id. Very helpful.

07.5-12 is essentially the same engine. There were lots of tuning updates along the way and in 11 there was a harmonic balancer change but otherwise I think the engine is the same.

The C&C's when introduced, not sure when they increased the HP though, they were 305 HP, mine was built in early 07. I believe they were at that HP until DEF was introduced. That might be why the confusion on detuned 6.7's for Comifornia. The advantage though is the emissions controls aren't as restrictive for the C&C's and fewer issues were reported. Mine was perfect until an update to the ECM in 09 changed the regen strategy and I believe did not download properly. (Long story) The new HP for a C&C is 325 HP.

I had an 06 5.9 before the 12 6.7. There is no comparison between the two for mileage OR Power. Both have 3.73 gears and both automatics. Between the 68rfe and more power I gladly accept the lesser mileage. I could break 20 mpg if I stayed out of the skinny peddle and 70 mph with the 5.9, with the 6.7 if I drove it off a cliff I MIGHT get 20 :)

Was that pic of your wreck out on 395 south of Ridgecrest?
