Might be an easy one but I'm a 12V guy and was wondering what was the first year for the HO and what were it's ratings? Also what does HPDI stand for? Also, correct me if I'm wrong but the only way to get the motor infor is directly from the tag, right? The VIN only tells is it's gas or diesel...

the engine digit in the VIN will also tell if it is an HO or not. on the third gens the 8th digit is the engine digit and the HO's have a "c" and the SO's have a "6". Should be the similar for the 2nd gens.

As for the HPDI, I am guessing it stands for "High Pressure Direct Injection". That means nothing since all Cummins are direct injected and are all high pressure. Just some are higher than others.

HPDI = high pressure direct injection. The fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber as opposed to a pre-chamber (indirect injection, or IDI) as was the case with the Ford 6. 9 IDI pre-PowerStroke diesel.
