First year of 4bt

I found a 75 Grummans step van that says its a 4cyl diesel in the classifieds I'm figuring its probably a 4bt repower but it got me wondering when the 4bt came out.



Also anyone have an idea what a decent old step van with a good running 350 gasser is worth in other words does taking the 4bt out make it scrap metal?

From the information that I've gathered, the 4BT delivery truck repower program started in 1984.



The best way to find out what year the engine is though is to look on the dataplate on the timing cover since the person who did the conversion could have dropped the engine into any year chassis they had.
