I'm considering installing 19. 5" wheels and tires from dual designs on my 96' 2wd dually (I guess technically it's a 4 wheel drive since it has 4 wheels on the back???) . I wonder if anyone has the dual designs 19. 5's on their 2wd. I'm considering buying them used from another member that has them on his 4wd. The tires that are on them are 245 / 70 / 19. 5's. I know the Rickson wheels will fit with the 225's but I'm wondering if anyone has the dual designs wheels with a 2wd and if anyone has 245's on a 2wd. It appears they may hit on the back side of the plastic inner fender well splash pan which I think I could heat with a heat gun and work it back a little?? Do tires bottom on the top of the fender wells? If so can I put longer snubbers on them to limit the front end travel some? The main reason for the wheels (other than they look great) is lower highway RPM. (The truck has a 3. 54 gear; I would love a 3. 31 rear gear if someone made it. ) I know I could put an overdrive on it. but I would like the tallest tire possible for looks and function.

Thanks again guys,

I do know that you can get a 3. 31 for your Dana 80- I was going over ratios and axles a few months back with the guy at National Differential in Colorado Springs. 3. 54 is highest for D70; 3. 31 for D80.

I have seen 19. 5s on a 2wd dually and there was plenty of room for clearance in the fenderwell. I have been kicking around the idea for my 91 (4. 10s) or going with a 3. 07 if I get lucky. Front springs seem high enough to handle the bigger tires, but cant tell till we get them mounted and on.

I do have a 4x4(6), but the clearance issues I believe are not the clearance on top but the clearance in front of and behind the tire on both the front and rears. I used the Dual Design adapters and Alcoa wheels with 285 tires which just fit on the front with occasional slight scuffing of the front wheel liner. No problem at the rear. I would think you would have no problems with the 245's. The tires will stick out about 3" on each side of a dually with the Dual Design setup. I don't know about a 2500. The wheels are 7. 5" wide. It makes a really stable platform for towing and hauling a heavy camper. I think they were worth it.

O.K. ,Got the wheels.....

I got the 19. 5"s with the 245/70's. They fit well in the front BUT do rub a little on the back side of the inner fender wells (splash pans). The back do stick out beyond the fenders and the mud flaps look goofy with those big tires. I'm going to be painting my truck in the near future and would love to flair the fenders on the back. I would love to know how you did those custom fenders RaDdodge. They look great.

I had them made out of fiberglass when I found out that the fenders on the Dodge are plastic and fiberglass won't stick to plastic. It was a real job to get them right. I wanted to make them available to others, but the mounting was a nightmare. The fellow that built them needed a truck bed to build the mounting flange correctly. Most of the work has been done, but I didn't get but one response when I asked if anyone was interested, so I dropped it. It's a lot easier to use fender flares; I just didn’t like the looks.

RadDodge,

I'm with you, I can't stand the way fender flairs look. Even more so, I don't like the way fender flairs look on just one end of the truck. How have the custom fiberglass fenders held up over time? Any cracking or paint spidering? Just curious where the shop that did your work is located, and if they would be willing to go through that again. Who knows, if there not on the left coast, I may consider having them paint the whole truck, because you seem like a picky guy (in a good way, which I am also) and if you a satisfied, I likely would be. :D :D :D If not, maybe a little insight on do's and do not's would help me get it done. After seeing yours, I'm not sure if I could settle for anything else. It just looks that good. Kudos to you sir.

Thanks again,
