Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Fitting for Trans Temp Gauge???

My Trans pan doesn't have a drain plug for a trans temp gauge, but when I looked under my truck (driver side) about 3" to 4" above the pan center in the trans between the linkage close to the spring is a threaded plug with a 3/8 plug? in it. Can I use this or not or is it to close to the spring or does it have to be in the pan????

I think you are describing the front band adjustment nut. Do not turn it or you will upset the adjustment.



Best location for a trans temp sender is in the cooler outlet line. Dodge sells a factory line from the older trucks or JRE sells a manifold kit. Either way you have to tap in the line somewhere. Do a search on here and you'll turn up lots of info.



Other option is in the pan,by either using an aftermarket pan with a fitting already installed,or modifying yours to accept a fitting. It's quite easy to tack weld in a fitting to the stock pan. If you do so,do the same with another nut and make a drain plug while your in there.
