NHRA Accident Involving John Force and Kenny Bernstien...

I am tired of blowing the gutters, even when I have them cleaned up good we will get some wind, then rain and they clog again.

Are the gutter fixes out there any good or are they just hype?

I was looking at this one: How Gutter Helmet Works

and while it seems good I can only imagine a more heavy rain not simply rolling around the edge like it shows.

Well the real solution for never having clogged rain gutters is not having them. :D

I have looked into the various types like the one you thought of, and screen type. I have not seen one that looks like in will be a prefect solution.

I would look into what is causing the clogging like a tree hanging over you house and see if it is possible to cut it back so the leaves don't drop on the roof. Sometimes that is not possible and and you are just stuck with cleaning the gutters. I have the same problem with a rental house and I have large 100' + cedar trees within 25-50' of the building. So every year(spring) I have to go up on the roof with a pressure washer and clean the roof and gutters.

That would fix it once an for all!

The trade off would be too much erosion below though.

There isn't much on our place actually, its gusts of winds and debris from tall trees outside of our property line.

The main trouble I see is the dinky down spout opening, a few little twigs with some leaves on top and its all over with. I can clean it out before weather hits but when the weather comes I find it clogged again and having to do the job "in the rain" or they over flow.

So far the best thing I have seen is this:

Rainwater Filters

The slick set up there would be to increase the down spout opening much larger so things don't get caught, then just dump out the filter tray when needed.

Iv seen some plastic grating at Home Depot that fits into the edges of the gutters that is supposed to prevent the "crap " from getting into the gutters.

I removed all of the hard to access gutters many years ago and I'm glad I did.

Shrubs and woodchips prevent erosion. ;)

I just had some of these mesh "socks" installed in the top on the leaders (downspouts). They're supposed to stop the clogging. I am considering some kind of louver cover that my roofer friend is installing often. I have a big tree problem. I'm saving up to take some of them down.

This one is a cheap fix that won't keep the gutters clear but at least will stop clogging in the down spout till you clean it out.

I just might give this some consideration. There are sections that don't "need" to have them so really why? Since posting I did nun across this thing: Welcome to Gutter Brush that looks interesting too. I tried the green screen posted above but it wouldn't fit the size gutter we have.

I have had a gutter installer out here recently as I have tired of the debris in the gutters also all the time. I figured since I am going to be doing a roof its a prime time to consider the soffits and rain gutters also. With the amounts of woods and tall trees I have here on my oversize lot I have tried all types of gutter inserts and those silly plastic screen covers also,NONE stopped the barrage or debris in the gutters. What was worse was the screen style covers as when they do allow debris in then you need to remove them to clean out the gutters and that is also a big PIA. My home the back gutters are three stories up due to the lot and the home layout so to clean the back out you need to do it from the roof looking down some 20 feet to the ground.

So while I had the professionals here looking over things I asked them both what they would do and how or what would be the best option. When asked both the roofer and the gentleman who is going to do the soffit/gutter work both said remove the gutters was the only way to not have them get blocked. Well that or remove all of the very old and very large hardwood trees on my property at costs which resemble the national debt. At 3-5k per tree due to their height, width and whats around them,so myself I am considering a metal roof with no gutters.

I think people who are accustomed to gutters sometimes overestimate the erosion to expect from not having them.

My parents house, a very tall 2-story, has no gutters. Never has, as long as they've owned it (30 years, house is more than 70 years old).

They have no erosion problems. There are some small divots in the asphalt driveway close to the house, but none larger in diameter than a silver dollar, and none deeper than 3/8". The driveway has never been replaced or repaired in the 30 years they've lived there (besides a coat of sealant every 15 years or so).

On the other hand, during extremely hard, sudden rainstorms, the basement leaks like a sieve. This may or may not be related to the lack of gutters.
