2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Fixed steering clunk/groan and excessive play!!!

Clunk/Groan was coming from the large spring that runs through the fire wall. I just sprayed it with some WD40. And the excessive play came from the nut that attaches the steering linkage to the steering box (it was loose!!!!).



Now my truck actually turns when I ask it to, and it doesn't sound like the steering wheel is going to pop off!!! Oo.



Woo Hoo!... ... I can enjoy driving my truck again! :-laf

You might want to spray it with so LPS #2 instead of WD40. WD40 is a water displacment formula and will not last.

Thanks for the advise. I was trying a silicon based lube spray, but it didnt' do anything so I used the WD40 instead. Where can I pick some of that stuff at?

Yea... ... ... . Definitely check the linkage where it attaches to the steering box!!! I had the clunk too... ..... As it turns out, the bolt that secures the linkage to the steering box was literally falling out. I tightened the bolt and the thing drives like new again!



Funny too... ... . I just had it at the dealer to have the brakes checked too..... I asked them to investigate the clunk... ..... They said it was "normal operation" and they all do it?????!!! (morons) :--)

i have this same stuff right now, right after midas did the PSC gear. i though when midas touched something it was supposed to turn to gold. every time ive taken my rig there to fix one thing another effed up. thanks for posting that. i gonna look into it right now.
