I finally got to the three bolts on my F/I pump, got pump adjusted tightened to hard to reach bolts and when about to claim victory, busted off the last bolt! My question is, will the other end find its way in to the gear housing ,or is it milled in not to move? I will not start the truck until I know. HELP!

Remove the pump and take the studs out of the gear housing. Put some new ones in, time the pump, and you're back on the road again. :D



PS... Don't overtighten!!!
 
Well, been looking in the Cummins books I have about this. The three studs are just that. They are threaded studs that screw in from the pump side and are locked in with Locktite #609. I cannot find if the holes go all the way thru into the gear area or not but I suspect they do not. I would try drilling a small pilot hole and then use a screw extractor. They should come out pretty easy.



By the way, the torque value is only 18 ft/lbs so don't overtighten.



Didn't see what size the studs are but the nuts take a 13 mm wrench so the studs are probably metric as well.



Unfortunately you will probably have to pull the pump for access to the old studs unless it is the one on the outside that is easy to get to.

Metric and 18 ft lb suggests M8 x 1. 25 thread.



Can't say about first gen, but the P7100 studs go through the gear housing. There is a flat area so if the stud broke on one side, you can use vise grips to remove it. If the side near the housing, a bigger job--drilling and easy out probably the best way. Don't try to run the pump/engine on just two studs. The second gen studs are expensive but precision made--about $7-8 each.
 
Better hardware stores carry drill bits that turn counter-clock wise just for removing broken bolts. Most times the bit will catch and turn the stud out. Sometimes an eze-out will expand a small stud and make it harder to remove. Good luck.

Thank you all for your feed back. I was tightening with a torque wrench so it must have been stressed already, moot point now but I'm lucky that it is the outside bolt so I can drill with out tearing apart. I was worried that I would have to dump oil and pull the front of the gear box and here I am with no other transportation and miles away from any parts store. At least Im home.

92 Wagon 5on the floor tweeked pump club cab all else is stock and a constant project.
