trailer building

I love this truck

Hey guys I know I read on here somewhere about making a mod to 2nd gen trucks to flash the running lights as a thank you when someone lets you back over after passing but can't find it. Does anyone know how to do this or have a link to the instructions?

Thanks,

I'm assuming you are talking about trailer lts. Pretty easy, run a hot wire (fused) to a toggle switch in the cab, then back to the trailer lt wire in your 7 way plug. Be sure to cut the original wire that goes to the relay.

I cut my trailer wire at the plug in the wheel well and ran it to a toggle for a while and then decided I didn't need it. I now just use the 4 ways as do many truckers. I figured why have the extra wires to clutter things under the dash.

All you would need, is to cut the wire in the cab that operates those lights, and add a normally closed, spring loaded momentary switch. That way, the lights will work as normal, until you hit the switch. When you let go, they will come back on. May need to add a short jumper wire, or 2, to the switch.

Makes sure the switch is heavy enough for the load.

If he is wanting to flash the trailer only the wires are not in the cab, it's all controlled from the PDC under the hood assuming the truck has a trailer tow package. I wanted a normally closed momentary switch when I did mine but couldn't come up with one, although I didn't try real hard.

Ah, OK. That is kind of dumb.

Yes my truck has factory towing package. Does the PCM still control this on a 01? I thought this was only for the 3rd gen trucks.

Thanks,

Rob
