Flatbed tailights...

What have you flatbed owners been doing for tail lights? I have tried the round 5 inch LED's which drove my puter nuts (and me) so am back to incandescent for simplicity. Now I see that I need 3 lights. One turn, one park and brake. Also backup. So I am drilling more holes for three lights to a side. Yuck. Two red ones would be turn and brake then park and brake. Back-up for the third. Any creativity out there in Ramland that would be of assistance here? Thanks, George

I read that you need to use a resistor in the electrical circuit to turn the "lamp out" idiot light off, when running LEDs... . FWIW

I prefer the oval version of your 5" lights. They're about 5-6" long and about 2" high... . look pretty cool when mounted at a 45° angle You don'tr really need two red lights if you don't want. Each one will have two bulbs (or two filaments) to make a bright and dim. The brake and turn uses the same bulb (or filament) while the park and running light uses the other. There's surely a way to get around the DC wireing... . tap into the trailer light wires maybe?

Here an example config. I wanted the large round backups for MORE light whilst backing. The ovals are what Scott is taking about, but I prefer the horizontals to the 45 deg. slant. Personal preferences. Oh, dogs optional... snow mandatory (actually this is from last spring. Right now we have nada (a little spanish lingo for those in Rio Linde) for snow )



I also don't mind three rounds in a row. Especially the "air bob" style you see on semis.

I found a thread on Geno's regarding the proper resistors. I would like the B/T/P in one unit. The trailer wiring would be that way... . I see OTD uses two reds. Both are probably brake and one a turn and the other a running (park) light. Tomorrow I will work with my local electronic genius to wrap this up. I am hoping for two lights to a side, one red and other a back up. If not, two reds and will maybe use those little fog lights (eyeballs) that the ricers use on the fronts of their cars. I have them on my 98 TDI. BTW, just bought a Passat TDI wagon, GL. Thanks for your input men. George
