I'm needing to know if there is any difference between the Fleetguard LF3349 and the LF3894 oil filters. I just did oil change no. 3 and I noticed that the filter I had was the 3894. For my two previous changes I was sold the 3349 and everything worked fine. The 3349 is $5 less than the 3894 so I'm hoping there is no difference. As far as I could tell there is no visual difference. I called the business where I purchased them and their books really didn't say much, so I'm in need of some knowledge... .

Bull, The LF3894 is the Stratapore filter for the 24v engines. The standard 24v filter is the LF3959. The Lf3349 is the standard filter for the 12v. The Stratapore is a better filter than the standard.

The difference between the 12v filters and the 24v filters is the gauge of metal used to make the outer shell. The 24v filters are made stronger, because in cold weather when first started the 24v engines were buldging the filter and causing them to leak or rupture.

genosgarage.com price list for filters

Fleetgaurd-Standard(24v) LF3959 $5. 95

Fleetguard-Stratapore(24v) LF3894 $8. 75

Bull, See TDR issue 28 page 44 for a better explanation.

Hope this helps. Todd

A little more info, here is a response I got from Fleetguard:

The LF3894 filter is recommended for the 24V Cummins 5. 9 in Dodge pickups. It contains our stratapore media is a more robust design than the LF3552. To simplify inventory, Chrysler/Dodge uses the same robust design on all applications for all years.

I've been using the 3894 on my 12v for the last three oil changes because the Stratopore filter better than the standard filter.
