Went to put a new, never opened, shrink wrap looked good Stratopore on today. Just happened to look inside and saw RUST. I scraped some out to confirm. The stuff stood up on a magnet. The other filter I had on hand had some spots in it but not rusted yet. Anyone else had this experience??

Were you given an older filter that someone dusted off the back shelf? I haven't noticed that yet. With them being wrapped in plastic, you wouldn't think it'd be a problem.

HMMmmm - good that you looked down inside - I tend to store my filters out in the garage - sometimes for quite a while if I have bought several at a time - mine have always been clean and shiny inside (yes, *I* check too!) - but not hard to visualize the possibility of high humidity causing problems - and mayby NOT always at a spot inside the filter where it can be seen - guess I'll have to find a better protected storage area...

Shrink wrapping provides a GOOD - but NOT perfect seal against the elements - it is VERY common for shrink wrap to have various pinholes and voids in them that WILL allow SOME leakage - it's a GOOD seal, but NOT perfect... ;)

I've seen spots on the bottom of them more than once. Yes, I look too ;) sometimes I've made the guy behind the counter at Cummins give me another one. They always look funny when I ask for a different one but it's my rig.

Something that is shrink wrapped can develop/hold mositure just as good as an open-air item. The metal item inside the shrink wrap is heating/cooling just like everyting else.

NAH - just keep them in a more protected environment - today I moved mine inside the house - of course, you have no control over how they are stored BEFORE you get them home...

buggy

i recently bought a new stratopore filter with some kind of small winged bug inside the wrapping , not sure how it got there ,my guess is that it was egg and then hatched ,no hole that could be found in wrapper , but i check them all now when i use them .
