I purchased a Fleetguard filter from Geno' s Garage. It took me 6 tries to get the D**N thing to thread onto the engine. I looked at it after 2 tries and compared it to the old filter (Mobil One). The threads on the Fleetguard were not cut very well at the start of thread. I ended up getting metal into the prefilled Fleetguard by trying time and again to get it on. I had to stick a magnet in there to get out the shavings that ended up in the oil, floating on top.

My Question is... Has anyone else had a problem with this???

I have always used Mobil 1 filters and they always have treaded right on, every time.

I am concerned about the Quality control of these Fleetguard filters as this was my first, and maybe my last.

Also- I do not in any way hold Geno's accountable in this matter.

No problems here either

I have installed many a Fleetguard oil filter and know that you have to get it positioned just right though or else it won't thread on. I buy 'em from Cummins and Geno's Garage.

I have never had one without an o-ring and I have never had a problem with the threads. Fleetguard is the only thing I have used on 2 pickups.

No "o" ring?

Never encountered any without the "o"ring. I personally wouldn't reuse the old one MAYBE in a pinch but not for long though!

LF3894...

I installed my 10th Fleetgaurd LF3894 this past weekend with no problems, spun on first try as usual. Every one of them has come with an O-ring.

fleetgard oil filter

:) :) my truck has 220500km. changed filter every 10000km. always use these filters since new. never had a problem. always comes with o ring. Oo. Oo.

I have bought all my Fleetguard filters from Geno's. I've done 6 oil changes and 3 fuel filter changes... never a problem. I've been pleased with the service and performance.

LF3894, had the same problem. Thought I would never get it to screw on. Did not see any shavings but was getting real upset with it not going on. Took at least 10 trys. Never had this experence before with any oil filter. Just got theses filters from Geno's 6/25/02. I hope the remaining 3 are not as hard to screw on.

Maybe Geno's got a bad batch of filters.

I get mine at a local Peterbilt Shop for $7 each usually. The last two were $7. 16 each so they went up a little. Not a bad price for LF3894 and the place is just across town.

fleetgard filters

I used fleetgard since my first oil change. With some I've had a problem threading them on. with others they go on right away. The problem is that the filter housing seems not to be 90 degrees to the block... . you need to tilt the filter about 1/16 inch from what you think is vertical. my technique is to support the filter from underneath with one hand and spin it on with the other. I can usually get it on in a few seconds that way.

I've done two oil changes on my truck. The first time it took me a few times to get the filter spinned on. Took several attempts and then me reaching down to try to figure out exactly what angle is needed by feeling around with my hand... tried again... and finally got it... the second oil change I did (2 weeks ago) I got it the first try. Both were Fleetguard filters. Perhaps the threads on the Fleetguards are a little less forgiving than the other filters you're used to... dunno... . now one thing I do have a problem with that takes several attempts is me lining up that darn magnetic drain plug just right so it doesn't attach itself to the bottom of the drain pan rather than making it in the hole... but that's a different thread. :p

Hey "Mack"- sometimes the filters can be a tab tricky to install. When your leaning into the engine compartment and trying to hold the filter up to the threads you have to tilt the bottom closer to the engine--at least thats how it seems on mine. I don't think its straight up and down. Good luck

I see everyone is using Fleetguard oil filters. Are they better than OEM filters? I just did my first oil change at 1800 miles and used a Mopar filter that went on smooth as butter. I've noticed the Fleetguard filters don't cost as much as the Mopar filter (no surprise) and if they're better then that's the way I'll go.
