Just to clarify.....

Both fuel and oil filters are the same for 2001 and 2001. 5 trucks, auto or stick.

IMO, the best fuel is the FS 19579 and oil is the stratapore, LF 3894.

None of the cummins dealers in my area stock the FS19579 fuel filter. They tell me the FS1268 will work. Is this true and what is the difference?

KOUNTERSC,

There is no difference—the filters are identical. My poking around the Fleetguard website took me to a page that stated the difference between the FS1268 and the FS19579 is a change to the O-ring that is packaged with the filter. The O-ring that is included with the FS19579 is designed to swell a bit more in the presence of diesel fuel than the O-ring packaged with FS1268.

I have a difficult time navigating fleetguard.com and haven't been able to find the page again (or maybe it no longer exists). The FS 1268 should be fine.

nice work Thomas

Thomas is %100 correct:) The FS19579 is the most updated filter, but the only difference is the O'ring. If you have never had a leaking problem then you are good to go with either one. The funny thing is that we here at Cummins Northwest sell the Fs19579 for about $3 less than the fs1268. Go figure.
